BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland's 2019 women's soccer opener against St. Francis (Pa.) was halted with 7:49 left in the first half due to persistent thunderstorms in the vicinity of Ridley Athletic Complex.
The game, officially recognized as a no contest, is not expected to be made up at a later date. All stats accumulated will not count towards season totals.
Loyola held a 1-0 lead when the rain arrived, with the Greyhounds needing less than two minutes to get on the scoreboard.
Hannah Hoefs' initial shot was blocked in front, but
Sarah Mirr put home the rebound for what would have been her first collegiate goal.
Shots were 8-3 in favor of the Greyhounds, with
Sarah Bayer totaling a team-high three.
Lily Andres made three saves in goal, including one at point blank range on an effort by St. Francis' Leanna Choo at the 14:40 mark.
Teams waited out a delay of just under two hours before the decision was made to halt the contest. Loyola will return to action at 1 p.m. on Sunday, hosting Seton Hall in a non-conference matchup at Ridley.
