Women’s Soccer Drops 4-0 Decision at Penn

PHILADELPHIA – Four different Penn players scored in a span of 10:24 midway through the opening half, accounting for all the offense during a 4-0 setback for Loyola University Maryland women's soccer on Sunday.

Paige Howard and Emily Sands each had a goal and an assist for the Quakers (4-1-1), who finished as co-Ivy League regular season champions last season. Howard opened the scoring in the 13th minute, with Sands, Kelsey Andrews and Breukelen Woodard adding insurance goals for the home side.

The Greyhounds (2-5) had the game's first two shots, with Kaleigh Gallagher forcing a save out of Penn goalkeeper Kitty Qu in the sixth minute. Penn controlled play the rest of the way, finishing with an 18-2 advantage in shots overall.

Paige Sim, who earned her first collegiate victory after playing the final 45 minutes in goal during Friday's 2-0 win over VMI, had another strong performance in relief this afternoon. Playing the last 72:41 of regulation, she made four saves while surrendering just one goal.

Penn, which allowed just five goals in 16 games last season, recorded its fourth shutout in the past five games. The Quakers' only setback this year was a 5-1 defeat at No. 3 Stanford on Aug. 30.

A new season for Loyola begins next Saturday, as the Greyhounds open up Patriot League play with a 1 p.m. road matchup at Lehigh.
