Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bayer, Sim Secure 1-1 Draw for Women’s Soccer vs. Holy Cross

BALTIMORE – Sarah Bayer scored her third goal of the season in the 36th minute, and Paige Sim made a season-high seven saves in goal to help Loyola University Maryland women's soccer to a 1-1 home draw with Holy Cross on Saturday.

The Greyhounds (4-5-1, 1-0-1 Patriot League) have earned four points in their first two conference matchups for the first time since 2016, while the Crusaders (2-2-5, 0-0-2 Patriot League) have played to a tie in five of their last seven contests overall.

Loyola's opener came off a corner kick by Nicole Rivas late in the opening half. Taylor DiMarco's initial shot was blocked, but Bayer blasted home the rebound to put the home side in front.

All three of Bayer's goals this season have come at Ridley Athletic Complex. Rivas and DiMarco each picked up their first points of 2019.

Holy Cross leveled up the score less than five minutes after the intermission, as a header from Samantha Peters finished off a set piece from a long throw-in. The visitors nearly jumped in front in the 66th minute, but a long range effort from Lexi Ansaldi was directed off the crossbar.

Loyola had most of the scoring opportunities the rest of the way, including two quality chances in the final three minutes of regulation. Ariel Tillman had a shot in front tipped aside by Sophia Lettieri, and Lettieri then made a diving PK save on Hannah Hoefs to keep the game deadlocked with 1:40 left on the clock.

Hoefs also had a pair of attempts in overtime, with one saved by Lettieri and the other fired off the crossbar in the 97th minute. Sim was required to make one save in extra time, securing an attempt by Holy Cross' Paige Epp less than four minutes in.

Lettieri finished with six saves for the Crusaders. Shots overall were 19-13 in favor of the Greyhounds. Hoefs led the way with six attempts, while Bayer followed with four.

Loyola, which is now 3-1-1 in its last five games, remains at Ridley for its next contest, hosting American in a Patriot League tilt at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
