BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland men's soccer, which has won back-to-back Patriot League regular season titles and was receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Division I preseason poll, takes on #10 Virginia Tech and James Madison in a weekend tournament hosted by JMU.

Last Time Out

  • Despite controlling possession for a majority of the contest, Loyola suffered its second 2-1 defeat in as many games to start the 2019 season with a tough setback at Appalachian State last Sunday.
  • The Mountaineers scored two goals in a span of 65 seconds early in the second half to break what had been a scoreless tie. The goals were their only shots on target of the contest.
  • Morgan Lussi scored a highlight-reel goal for Loyola in the 52nd minute, driving a half-volley from 25 yards out into the upper left-hand corner for his second career collegiate goal.
  • Appalachian State goalie Jacob Madden dove to prevent potential tying efforts by Brian Saramago and Kristinn Pétursson during the final 35 minutes to preserve the home side's victory.

  • Loyola's last win over an ACC foe was a 2-1 victory at Pittsburgh on Sept. 20, 2016.
  • Loyola has a 7-2 lead in the all-time series with James Madison, though this is the first meetings since a 3-0 JMU victory on Oct. 12, 2013.
  • The Greyhounds last win over JMU was a 4-2 triumph on Sept. 22, 2012.
