SPARKS, Md. – The U.S. Women's Lacrosse National Team coaching staff announced on Monday 50 candidates to compete for spots on the national squad at the 2021 World Championships, with Loyola University Maryland standouts
Katie Detwiler and
Livy Rosenzweig each invited to the upcoming tryout sessions.
Tryouts will take place from December 4-6 at U.S. Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, while the 2021 World Championships will be hosted by Towson University from July 7-17 next summer.
Detwiler, a junior defender for the Greyhounds, was previously part of the U.S. U19 training team in 2019. She was one of just three sophomores in the nation named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List during the shortened 2020 season, and she also added ILWomen first team All-America accolades last spring. A four-time Patriot League Defender of the Week, Detwiler has totaled 34 ground balls, 16 caused turnovers and 23 draw controls in her first 26 collegiate games.
Rosenzweig was also both a Tewaaraton Award candidate and ILWomen first team All-American last season after leading Loyola in points (27) and assists (17) while ranking second in draws (27). A senior attacker, she totaled 4+ points in all five games for Loyola, which was No. 3 in the IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse national polls prior to the season's early shutdown. Rosenzweig will enter 2021 ranked eighth all-time at Loyola in points (245), 25th in goals (111), second in assists (134) and third in draw controls (201).
The U.S. National Team, which is led by UNC head coach Jenny Levy, has won the last three World Lacrosse championships (2009, 2013 and 2017) and has won a record eight World Cups since the championship was first contested in Nottingham, England in 1982.
A record 30 nations are expected to compete in the 2021 championship. This will be the first time the women's world championship has been held in the United States since 2005.
