CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland's
Santi Aldama was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the second time in as many weeks on Monday after the freshman averaged a double-double in two Greyhounds games last week.
Since making his collegiate debut on February 1, 2020, after missing the first 22 games of the year with an injury, Aldama has been named Patriot League Rookie of the Week three of the five times he has been eligible for the honor.
Last week, Aldama averaged 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds to go with 2.5 blocks, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals against the U.S. Naval Academy and Lehigh University.
He went for 18 points and a career-high 12 rebounds on Wednesday night at Navy before he scored a team-best 20 and had three blocks and eight boards on Saturday evening versus Lehigh.
In the nine games he has played this year, Aldama has averaged 14.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.7 blocked shots per game. If he were eligible for the Patriot League statistical leaders – players must participate in 75 percent of their team's games in order to be listed – Aldama would rank first in rebounds and blocks per game among rookies and second in points per game.
The Greyhounds open the Patriot League Championships on Tuesday, March 3, when they travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, for a 7 p.m. first-round game at Lehigh University.
