BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland student-athletes finished the Spring 2020 term with high marks in the classroom with nine teams finishing with semester grade-point averages of 3.75 or higher.
A total of 78 student-athletes, a record at Loyola, finished with a perfect 4.0 GPA during the semester, including senior Anne Hayburn who will graduate with a 4.0 mark. Twelve of her women's swimming and diving teammates also had 4.0s, while the women's track and field team had 11.
"Our student-athletes once again excelled this semester, doing so under a very challenging set of circumstances during the spring," said
Colleen Campbell, Loyola's director of student-athlete support services. "They adapted to a new learning style on the fly, and they did so with a tremendous amount of success. It is a great sense of pride that we see their work come to fruition at the end of the semester, and we would like to thank Loyola's faculty, staff, coaches and administrators for their support and encouragement during this and every semester!"
Loyola female student-athletes combined to put up a 3.771 GPA, while the men's teams had a combined 3.478. Both of those marks were records for the respective genders. The women's tennis team finished with the highest GPA in both semester and cumulative categories with 3.876 and 3.738, respectively.
In all, 197 student-athletes received Dean's List honors, a recognition which necessitates students to post a 3.5 or higher GPA and complete 15 or more credits.
