BALTIMORE – The Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse program officially announced its recruiting Class of 2024 on Wednesday.
Eight freshmen will join the Greyhounds for the upcoming 2021 season. Included in the group are six midfielders, one attacker and one defender. Five are from Maryland, with Florida, Ohio and Virginia also represented in this year's class.
The newcomers add additional depth to a program which was ranked No. 3 nationally at the conclusion of the shortened 2020 campaign. Loyola went 5-0 last spring, defeating four ranked teams and outscoring opponents by an 88-50 margin. The Greyhounds were third in Division I in fewest turnovers per game (11.4), fifth in assists per game (8.8), fifth in points per game (26.4), fifth in save percentage (.528) and fifth in free position percentage (.560).

Sydni Black

Before Loyola: Totaled 24 goals, 45 draw controls, 40 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers during her junior season while helping team claim state and region championships … also part of squad which won county and region titles in 2017 … two-time All-County performer … received Senior Athlete award in 2020 … played club lacrosse for Maryland United East … three-year letterwinner in basketball, earning a spot in Senior All-Star Game and winning a regional championship in 2020 … four-year Top Scholar Athlete honoree … three-year Minds in Motion award recipient.

Blake Cunneen
Before Loyola: Contributed to a McDonogh squad which won its 10th IAAM A Conference championship in 11 years as a junior in 2019 … team went 20-0 that season, including a 13-0 mark in conference play … Under Armour All-America underclass participant for Baltimore Command and Highlight teams … Highlight team finished as tournament champions … played club lacrosse for M&D Lacrosse … also a four-year letterwinner in field hockey and a one-year letterwinner in indoor track & field … field hockey squad won IAAM A championship in 2016 and finished as semifinalists from 2017-19.

Izzy D'Antonio
Before Loyola: Key contributor to a team which won ISL and VISAA State Championship in 2019 … that team, which finished 25-2 overall, was ranked No. 2 nationally by US Lacrosse at the conclusion of the season … played club lacrosse for Capital Lacrosse Club A … also a two-year letterwinner in track & field … finished sixth at the VISAA State Championships after breaking her own school record in the 55-meter dash, and part of a 4x200 meter relay team which placed fifth at the state meet.
Personal: Is the daughter of Anita and Jeff D'Antonio … organized and took part in Walk to Bust Cancer event … volunteered in several community service initiatives, teaching lacrosse to local youth groups.
Sarah Engle
Before Loyola: Honored as a US Lacrosse All-America selection following a 2019 season in which she contributed 52 goals, 19 assists and 67 draw controls while helping team win its fifth regional championship in six years … also named Bayside South co-Player of the Year and first team All-Bayside South that spring … chosen as team MVP and first team All-Bayside South as a sophomore in 2018 … played club lacrosse for Saltwater Dolphins Lacrosse Club and Uproar Lacrosse Club … additionally a four-year letterwinner in basketball and a two-year letterwinner in soccer … part of an undefeated season in basketball, earning team MVP awards in 2019 and 2020 and finishing with 560 points and 600 assists overall.

Izzy Sedwick
