Forsythe Sets Patriot League & Loyola Career Digs Records, But American Wins In 5

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Katie Forsythe set Loyola University Maryland and Patriot League career records for digs on Saturday, but American University outlasted the Greyhounds in five, 21-25, 25-16, 25-22, 19-25, 15-7.

Forsythe finished with 33 digs, raising her career total to 2,044 to set the new marks.

Her second dig of the night broke the Patriot League mark of 2,012 that was set in 2019 by American's Kristen Largay, and Forsythe continued to show throughout the match why she is a three-time Patriot League Libero of the Year.

Late in the fourth set, as the Greyhounds pushed the match to a fifth, Forsythe recorded the 2,043rd dig of her career, eclipsing the total of 2,042 set by Brittany Born from 2007-2010.

The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the first set behind the strength of its block, denying American eight times during the frame, but the Eagles came back to take the second and third.

Loyola's offense keyed its success in the fourth set, hitting .387 to push the match to a fifth.

Cat Vaccaro tied the fifth set with a kill, making the score 3-3, but American reeled off 10 of the next 12 points to go up 13-5, en route to the match win.

Abby Hamilton led the Greyhounds' offense with 13 kills, and she added 10 digs. Lauren Link posted a double-double, as well, swinging for 13 kills and picking up a career-high 22 digs. Vaccaro added 10 kills, and Adara Kellogg had eight kills to go with seven total blocks.

Loyola will be back in Reitz Arena next weekend for a pair of matches, hosting Lafayette College on Friday night and Lehigh University on Saturday.
