Box Score NEWARK, N.J. – Tomas Jorge opened the scoring in the 26th minute, and Rene White added what turned out to be the game-winning strike 16 minutes into the second half to help NJIT hand Loyola University Maryland a 2-1 setback on Tuesday night.

The Highlanders (3-6-1) snap a three-game losing streak while the Greyhounds (4-4-2) see a two-game winning run come to an end. Loc San scored his second goal of the season for Loyola with 4:09 remaining in regulation, but the visitors were unable to find a late equalizer.

Jorge's opener was an unstoppable long-distance effort which curled into the top left corner. NJIT, which advanced to the 2019 NCAA tournament after winning an ASUN championship, outshot Loyola by a 7-4 margin in the first half.

The Highlanders maintained their offensive pressure after the intermission and doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute. Justin Aguirre-Rosas gained possession in the box and found White alone in front. The Division I active scoring leader and former All-American then sent a shot into the lower left corner for his eighth goal of the season.

Loyola's first shot of the second half cut the deficit in half in the 86th minute. Matthew Lala found Marco Bla in the midfield, and he sent a pass towards San at the top of the box. San then moved towards his right and fired a low attempt into the left corner.

The Greyhounds had one last shot in the closing minutes, but a header in the box was sent wide with 2:12 remaining. Chase Vosvick, who saw a shutout streak end at 246:09 in the first half, made two saves in goal for the visitors.

Loyola begins a three-game homestand at Ridley Athletic Complex on Saturday, hosting Lafayette in a Patriot League matchup beginning at 5 p.m.
