LEWISBURG, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland volleyball rebounded from a Friday night setback at Colgate University as
Abby Hamilton and
Lauren Link combined for 34 kills during a four-set victory, 25-18, 25-18, 21-25, 25-22, over host Bucknell University on Saturday in Davis Gymnasium.
Hamilton put away 20 kills while hitting .295, while Link recorded 14 for Loyola (14-5 overall, 6-2 Patriot League).
Katie Forsythe had a match-best 22 digs, moving into second all-time in the Patriot League in the category during the match. During the third set, Forsythe tied and then passed the mark of 1,989 digs put up by Colgate's Jackie Adlam from 2005-08.
Forsythe now sits at 1,997 for her career and is poised to become the second player in both Loyola and Patriot League history to tally 2,000 in a career. With 16 more digs, she will break the conference record of 2,012 by American's Kristen Largay (2016-19).
On Saturday, Loyola held the Bison to a .082 hitting percentage in the first two sets to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Bucknell offense sparked, however, in the third set and it hit .333 in the frame followed by a .406 mark in the fourth.
Loyola took a 21-20 advantage in the third on a Bison service error, but Bucknell rallied with the final five points to force the fourth set.
A 3-0 run by Bucknell in that stanza put it on top, 12-10, but four of the next five points went to the Greyhounds as they regained the lead.
Six tie scores later, Loyola pulled ahead 21-20 on a
Cat Vaccaro kill, and it scored the next two on a Bucknell attack error and Hamilton kill.
The teams traded sideouts from there with
Caitlin Churney and Link putting down kills for the Greyhounds to clinch the match.
Loyola will have nearly two weeks of rest before its next game as the Greyhounds have a bye weekend before playing at Navy and American on Friday and Saturday, October 22 and 23.
