BALTIMORE –
Kenneth Jones' layup with 4:11 left in regulation put Loyola University Maryland up nine, but a three and paint basket by Johns Hopkins University made it a 52-48 game with 3:12 game.
Jaylin Andrews rebounded a Greyhounds' miss and immediately kicked it out to
Kenneth Jones in the left corner where he drained a three to seal a 60-49 Loyola victory in exhibition action in Reitz Arena.
Andrews ripped a rebound out of the hands of a Blue Jays player after a Loyola missed shot and found a wide-open Jones in the corner for the three at 2:36.
Milos Illic made a pair of free throws a minute later, and
Veljko Ilic then scored just outside the paint with under a minute to play to keep the lead at nine.
Loyola's win came after Johns Hopkins went on a 15-0 run late in the first half to take a 31-22 lead with 46 ticks left in the half.
Cam Spencer's three cut the deficit to six at the half. That three started a 19-1 run that stretched the lead to 41-32 on a Spencer jumper 6:15 into the second.
Andrews lead all scorers with 18 points, and he also had nine rebounds. Jones scored 10 and grabbed six boards, while
Milos Ilic had nine points and seven rebounds.
Golden Dike grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds while dishing out five assists.
Loyola will open the regular-season on Tuesday, November 9, at the University of North Carolina in a 7 p.m. game that will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
