Career-Highs From Andrews, Dike, Jones Help Men’s Basketball Past Bulldogs

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Jaylin Andrews, Golden Dike and Kenneth Jones had career-highs in points, rebounds and assists, respectively, on Friday afternoon, helping the Loyola University Maryland men's basketball team to a 75-65 win over South Carolina State in the Greyhounds' first game at the Rising Coaches Classic.

Andrews poured in a career-best 30 points, making 11 of 15 shots and 5 of 7 from 3-point range to lead all scorers. He also had four steals for the Greyhounds.

Dike grabbed a career-best 18 rebounds, tied his career-high with six assists and had two blocked shots and six points.

Jones dished out a career-high eight points to go with 11 points. Cam Spencer scored 10 of his 16 points after halftime and finished with six rebounds, as well.

The Greyhounds made 11 of their last 13 shots from the field as they needed a small rally in last 10 minutes of the game.

Latavian Lawrence gave the Bulldogs a 47-43 lead with 11:23 to go in regulation, but Spencer hit a three on the Greyhounds' next possession to get the Greyhounds within a point. Deaquan Williams made it a three-point lead for South Carolina State with a bucket, but Milos Ilic took a Dike pass and knocked down a three from the top-left to tie the game at 49-49.

A dunk by Dike and a transition layup by Alonso Fauregave the Greyhounds a four-point advantage, 53-49, at 9:07, but South Carolina State would have another run in it as Lawrence put the Bulldogs in front, 58-57, with a fast-break basket at 6:22

Spencer drew a foul on the next possession with the shot clock at one, and his two free throws gave Loyola the lead for good.

South Carolina State would cut its deficit to two, 66-64, on a Rakeim Gray three with 2:40 left, but it would be the Bulldogs' last field goal of the game.

Loyola turned the ball over on the ensuing possession, but Andrews got back and blocked a TJ Madlock shot, and Spencer grabbed the board.

Spencer threw it ahead to Andrews on a break, and he converted a tradition 3-point play with a layup and free throw after being fouled.

Loyola shot 57.7 percent from the field in the second half after making only a third of its 33 shots in the first.

The Greyhounds will make a quick turnaround for its second of three games of the event when they play the host College of Charleston on Saturday at 5 p.m.
