Defense Keys Senior Night Win For Volleyball Over Bucknell

BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland totaled 11 blocks, led by six from Cecylia Guye and five by Adara Kellogg, on Friday night, holding Bucknell University to -.009 hitting, and the Greyhounds scored a 25-12, 25-21, 25-16 Patriot League victory on Senior Night in Reitz Arena.
 
The Greyhounds honored four members of its Class of 2022 prior to the game, recognizing Corinne Filograna, Katie Forsythe, Abby Hamilton and Cat Vaccaro.
 
Hamilton turned in 12 kills and Vaccaro five in the match, while Forsythe and Filograna led the Greyhounds with 23 and 10 digs, respectively.
 
Lauren Link added 11 kills, while Kacy Sekunda had four along with 33 assists. Sekunda was in on four of the blocks, and Vaccaro teamed for three.
 
Loyola never trailed in the first set while siding out at an 83 percent clip to take an early lead in the match.
 
The Bison built nominal leads in the second set, going up by two on multiple occasions, including 18-16 on a Sandra Korusiewicz kill. Loyola responded with three-straight points on kills by Hamilton and Sekunda and a Hamilton service ace.
 
After a Bucknell timeout, Hamilton had a second-straight ace, and Loyola was up 20-18. Bucknell scored the next two, however, and tied the set on an Allie Lopez kill.
 
Guye sided out with a kill for Loyola, and an attack error by Bucknell gave Loyola a two-point advantage before Libby Nieporte sided out for the Bison with a kill at 22-21.
 
Link and Kellogg had consecutive kills for Loyola to give the Greyhounds set-point, 24-21, before Kellogg and Vaccaro teamed for a block to end the set in Loyola's favor.
 
Hamilton and Link each had four kills in the third set, and Loyola never trailed en route to the match win.
 
The Greyhounds close the regular season on Saturday at 4 p.m. when they host Colgate University in Reitz Arena.
