BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland shot 30.3 percent from the field, 20 percent from 3-point range, on Wednesday, as it dropped a 71-49 decision to host Coppin State University in non-conference action.
Milos Ilic scored all of his career-high 11 points in the second half, while
Cam Spencer led the Greyhounds with 12 points.
Coppin State led 30-22 at halftime and it stretched the lead to 13 just over two minutes into the second half.
An Ilic basket with 17:31 to go in regulation triggered an 8-0 Loyola run that saw him score four, as well as two each from
Jaylin Andrews and
Kenneth Jones.
Jones' steal and fast-break layup cut the deficit to five, 38-33 at the 15:34 mark. The Eagles scored two on free throws before a pull-up jumper by Spencer made it 40-35 at 14:29.
Neither Loyola, nor the Eagles scored for almost three minutes, but Kyle Cardaci's layup at 11:44 started a 9-0 Coppin State run, and the Greyhounds did not score for over six minutes.
The run stretched to 22-6 on a Tyree Corbett layup that made it 60-41 Eagles at 4:04.
Alonso Faure had season-highs of seven points and nine rebounds, while
Golden Dike had eight boards for the Greyhounds.
Loyola will take a week off before its next game when it hosts Elizabethtown College at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2021.
