BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its 11-member Academic All-League Team for women's soccer on Tuesday afternoon, and Loyola University Maryland led the conference with three honorees.
Senior
Sarah Bayer was recognized for a third-straight season, junior
Paige Sim earned a repeat selection and sophomore
Chloe Kuminkoski was named to the team in her first eligible season. To be considered for the award, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter and/or key reserve for their team. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.
Bayer holds a 3.95 grade-point average as a biology/speech pathology interdisciplinary major and biomedical physics minor. She ranked third on the team with eight points (3 G, 2 A) this season and totaled 30 points (12 G, 6 A) overall during her four seasons with the program. Two of Bayer's goals came in key moments late in the regular season, as she had Loyola's lone strike in a 1-1 draw with Bucknell and provided the game-winner in a 1-0 victory at American. Bayer is Loyola's first three-time All-Patriot League and Academic All-Patriot League performer since the Greyhounds joined the conference in 2013.
Sim maintains a 3.94 GPA while majoring in biochemistry and minoring in business administration. She joined Bayer as a three-time All-Patriot League performer this fall, landing on the first team and becoming Loyola's first conference Goalkeeper of the Year since 2012. A four-time Goalkeeper of the Week, Sim allowed one goal or fewer in 11 of Loyola's final 12 regular season games and led the conference in goals-against average (0.96), save percentage (.809) and shutouts (7).
Also a biochemistry major, Kuminkoski finished her freshman year with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She was one of six Greyhounds to start all 18 games, contributing to a backline which allowed just 19 goals on the year. Loyola's six goals allowed during the nine regular season Patriot League games were the fewest in the conference, and the program's seven overall shutouts also led the Patriot League in the regular season. Kuminkoski added her first collegiate point this fall, recording the primary assist on
Kaleigh Gallagher's game-winner at Holy Cross.
Loyola has now had multiple Academic All-Patriot League selections in each of the last three seasons under head coach
Joe Mallia, while also qualifying for the conference tournament in each of those three campaigns.
