BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse will have a new season-opening opponent in 2022 as the Greyhounds will play the University of Maryland on February 12 to open a 14-game regular-season schedule.
The Greyhounds and Terrapins will meet for the first time since the 2015 season and just the fourth time this century. The game is the first of a multi-year series that will start in College Park, Maryland.
A week later, Loyola will play another traditional rivalry game when it heads to nearby Johns Hopkins University on February 19 for the 58
th all-time meeting with the Blue Jays.
Loyola opens a seven-date home schedule on February 26 against Rutgers University, another team that reached the NCAA Quarterfinal round last season, and the Greyhounds then play nearby foe Towson University at home in a mid-week game on March 2.
The first of eight regular-season Patriot League games comes on March 5 when the Greyhounds head to Easton, Pennsylvania, to face Lafayette College.
Loyola then takes on Duke University at Ridley Athletic Complex on March 12 in a rematch of the 2021 NCAA Quarterfinal game that went to overtime. It will be the 23
rd-straight season the Greyhounds and Blue Devils have met with multiple NCAA tournament games during that stretch.
A stretch of five-consecutive Patriot League games starts on March 19 at home against Bucknell University, and Loyola then wraps up a three-game homestand on March 26 when it hosts the U.S. Military Academy.
The Greyhounds head to New England on April 2 for a game at College of the Holy Cross before returning to Maryland for a road game on April 9 at the U.S. Naval Academy.
A home game against Boston University April 16 concludes that string of conference games before Loyola steps out of the Patriot League for its last non-conference game of the year on April 19 against another NCAA Quarterfinalist from 2021, Georgetown University.
The Greyhounds stay on the road for their next game, traveling to Hamilton, New York, to face Colgate University on April 23, and they wrap-up the regular-season with a Friday, April 29, contest against Lehigh University.
The top-six teams in the Patriot League standings will qualify for the 2022 Patriot League Championships. The top two teams will earn byes to the semifinals with the regular-season champion hosting both the semifinals and championship game. The quarterfinals will be played at higher seeds on May 3 with the semifinals and championship game taking place May 6 and 8.
The 2022 schedule is subject to change, and times will be announced at a later date.
