Howard Rallies Past Women’s Basketball in Fourth Quarter

WASHINGTON – Iyanna Warren scored the game's final five points, including a go-ahead layup with 25 seconds remaining, as Howard pulled out a 61-59 victory over Loyola University Maryland on Wednesday.

The Bison (3-4) trailed by as many as 13 points in the second half, but outscored the Greyhounds (2-5) by a 24-12 margin in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback. Taleah Dixon had a team-high 16 points for Loyola, while Lex Therien added 14 points and seven rebounds.

Warren's game-winning basket gave Howard its first lead of the night, as the Greyhounds opened the contest on a 5-0 run and led 17-6 at the end of the first quarter. Dixon had nine of her 16 points in the frame, as she reached double figures for a sixth time in seven games to begin the season.

Loyola took its largest lead at 25-11 on a Therien layup midway through the second, and the visitors maintained a 30-21 advantage at the break.

The Bison shot 65.2 percent from the field in the second half, and they hit 9 of 12 field goal attempts during their fourth-quarter rally. Destiny Howell scored 18 of her game-high 21 points after the intermission for the home side.

Charia Roberts chipped in 11 points and five rebounds for the Greyhounds, while Laryn Edwards supplied six points, four assists and three steals in her first start of the year.

Loyola is back at Reitz Arena for its next two contests, beginning with a 5 p.m. matchup against Mount St. Mary's on Saturday.
