BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse will get the 2021 season underway with a big top-five matchup at Ridley Athletic Complex, as a 12 p.m. tilt against No. 3 Syracuse on Saturday, Feb. 20 highlights a 12-game schedule announced on Friday morning.
The Greyhounds have five contests against non-conference opponents and seven games vs. Patriot League opposition. Schedule additions are still possible at a later date, Follow @LoyolaWLAX on

Consistent with the prioritization of health and safety, the 2020-21 schedule formats feature reductions in travel and overnight stays. Existing precautions for all athletic teams and events will continue until further notice. These precautions include testing, social-distancing and other protections in place for teams.
All home events continue to be closed to members of the general public, including student-athlete's families and current Loyola students.
The health protocols that are in place are designed to protect the health and safety of the campus community. These precautions have allowed Loyola to return to athletic competition in men's and women's basketball, as well as put plans in place for the Greyhounds varsity programs to have a season with opportunities to compete.
Loyola, which was ranked No. 4 in the preseason IWLCA Coaches' poll, will host two top 10 opponents at Ridley in February, as No. 8 Florida comes to town for a 1 p.m. tilt on Feb. 28. The Greyhounds handed the then-No. 4 Gators a 17-6 setback when the sides met in Gainesville last season.
In between the Syracuse and Florida matchups is a Feb. 24 contest at Towson. A trip to Villanova on March 3 and a home game against Georgetown on March 10 rounds out the current non-conference schedule.
This year's Patriot League season will be revised due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with the 10 teams split into two divisions based on geography to limit travel. Loyola is grouped with American, Bucknell, Lehigh and Navy in the South division, while Army West Point, Boston University, Colgate, Holy Cross and Lafayette will compete in the North division.
The top two teams in each division advance to the Patriot League tournament, with semifinal games set for May 6 and the championship scheduled for May 8. The Greyhounds have won 4 of 6 Patriot League titles since joining the conference in 2014, including a 21-9 triumph over Navy in the last championship game back in 2019.
Loyola's 2021 Patriot League schedule begins with a 12 p.m. home matchup against American on March 6. The rematch between the two sides in Washington, D.C., takes place on April 10.
The Greyhounds also have multiple games scheduled against Navy (away on 3/13, home on 4/24) and Bucknell (away on 3/20, home on 4/17). The Mids were ranked tied for 21st in the initial IWLCA poll. A home contest vs. Lehigh on April 3 rounds out the schedule.
Loyola has won 10+ games in every completed season under 13-year head coach
Jen Adams, and the Greyhounds were a perfect 5-0 at the conclusion of the shortened 2020 campaign. Adams, a three-time IWLCA Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, has guided Loyola to eight NCAA tournament appearances and an overall record of 158-66 during her tenure.
