BETHLEHEM, Pa. –
Katie Detwiler received her second-straight Patriot League Defender of the Week award, while Loyola University Maryland moved up in both the IWLCA coaches' and ILWomen media polls in separate announcements on Monday.
Detwiler is honored for a sixth time overall in her collegiate career after leading the Greyhounds backline in victories over Georgetown and Drexel. Loyola moved up two spots to No. 12 in the IWLCA poll, and the Greyhounds jumped five positions to No. 13 in the media rankings.
Detwiler's primary matchup on Wednesday was Georgetown's Michaela Bruno, whom she held without a point in Loyola's 9-6 win. That snapped a 23-game point scoring streak for the two-time All-Big East performer. Detwiler then matched up against Drexel's Karson Harris on Sunday, a 2021 Tewaaraton Award watch list candidate who entered the weekend ranked second nationally in goals scored (24). Harris was limited to one goal on three shots, as the Greyhounds prevailed by a 17-12 final.
Drexel was ranked No. 24 in the IWLCA and No. 16 in the ILWomen polls prior to Sunday's matchup, with Loyola handing the Dragons (5-1) their first setback of the season.
Detwiler added two ground balls in both matchups, and the Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year had a pair of caused turnovers on Sunday. Loyola has now won four-consecutive games overall, outscoring opponents by a combined margin of 65-28 during that stretch.
Livy Rosenzweig,
Sam Fiedler and
Kaitlyn Larsson also received honorable mention accolades from the Patriot League. Rosenzweig (7 G, 4 A, 13 DC) and Fiedler (7 G, 5 A) led the offense last week, while Larsson added 21 stops in goal, including a career-high 14-save performance against Georgetown.
The Greyhounds return to Patriot League play next Saturday, traveling to Bucknell for a matchup beginning at 1 p.m.
