The Matchup

  • Loyola women's lacrosse, which is ranked 12th in the IWLCA Coaches' poll and 13th in the ILWomen media poll, travels to Bucknell for a Patriot League matchup at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
  • The Greyhounds (4-2, 1-0 PL) have won four-consecutive games, outscoring opponents 65-28 during that stretch, while the Bison (1-1, 1-0 PL) topped Lafayette 15-7 in their PL opener last week.

Last Time Out

  • Livy Rosenzweig matched career-highs in both goals (6) and points (9), while Jillian Wilson added four points and nine draw controls for Loyola in a 17-12 home victory over No. 24 Drexel last Sunday.
  • Sam Fiedler (5 G, 1 A) and Elli Kluegel (4 G, 1 A) also had strong performances for the Loyola, which handed the Dragons (5-1) their first loss of the season. Fiedler recorded her sixth career five-goal game, while Kluegel's five points matched a career best.
  • Rosenzweig also matched a career best with three caused turnovers, and she was right behind Wilson with seven draws.
  • Wilson's nine draws were the most by a Loyola player this season, as she finished one shy of a career high.

Rosenzweig Nears Program Assist Record

  • The last of Livy Rosenzweig's three assists against Drexel was the 148th of her Loyola career, tying her with Annie Thomas '15 for the program record.
  • Her 148 assists have come in just 53 collegiate appearances. She is fourth all-time in the Patriot League, 29 behind all-time leader Kelly Larkin from Navy.
  • Rosenzweig has recorded multiple assists in five out of six games this season, and in 43 of 53 collegiate appearances overall.
  • Rosenzweig is also No. 7 all-time at Loyola in points (276). She is one back of Marlee Paton '14 in 6th and 41 behind former teammate Hannah Powers '19 for the top spot.

Series History

  • Loyola leads 15-0 in a series which dates back to 1982.
  • The Greyhounds have outscored Bucknell by a 251-79 margin in their 15 victories, including a 21-1 triumph at Ridley Athletic Complex in the most-recent meeting on April 17, 2019.
  • Livy Rosenzweig had nine points (2 G, 7 A) in that 2019 win, while Sam Fiedler supplied four goals and an assist.
  • The closest matchup between the sides since Loyola joined the Patriot League in 2014 was a 13-7 win for the Greyhounds in 2016.

Scouting Bucknell

  • The Bison have split their first two games this spring, with last week's eight-goal win over Lafayette following a 11-10 overtime defeat to St. Bonaventure in their opener on March 6.
  • Sr. M Julia Bradbury was named Patriot League Midfielder of the Week after totaling a career-high five goals in the Lafayette victory, while Fr. A Ellie Mayer was named Rookie of the Week after scoring her first three collegiate goals.
  • Bucknell was ranked ninth out of 10 schools in this year's Patriot League preseason poll. The Bison were 3-5 during the shortened 2020 season and 4-13 (2-7 PL) back in 2019.
  • Bucknell's last winning season came in 2017 (9-8 overall, 4-5 PL).

Patriot League Dominance

  • Loyola is 53-0 against Patriot League opponents in regular season play since joining the conference, including a 21-4 victory over American in this year's conference opener on March 6. That run is the longest active win streak in Division I.
  • The NCAA record for consecutive conference wins is a 61-game streak by UMass in Atlantic 10 play which began in 2011 and ended on April 22, 2018.
  • The Greyhounds claimed Patriot League championships in each of their first three years in the conference (2014-16), and added a fourth postseason title in 2019 with a 21-9 victory over Navy.

Quick Notes from Drexel

  • The nine-point game for Livy Rosenzweig was the fifth of her Loyola career and her second this season (she had an identical six-goal, three-assist performance at Villanova on March 3).
  • After trailing 11-5 in draw controls late in the first half, the Greyhounds won 12 of 15 draws to conclude the contest.
  • Sam Fiedler has now totaled at least one point in 46-consecutive games, and she has scored a goal in 44-straight contests.
  • Holly Lloyd (2 A) recorded her eighth career multi-assist game (third this season).
  • With the victory, Loyola improved to 15-1 in its last 16 home games at Ridley.

Big Week for Larsson

  • Kaitlyn Larsson totaled a career-high 14 saves in last Wednesday's 9-6 win over Georgetown, and she added seven stops while holding Drexel to a season-low scoring total on Sunday.
  • Larsson's previous career high saves total was 12, a mark she reached twice during Loyola's 5-0 season last spring.
  • Larsson leads the Patriot League and is ranked 43rd nationally in saves per game (8.3). She is also 32th in DI in goals-against average (10.03) and she is 33rd in save percentage (.472).
  • Larsson is 12-2 overall in her career (8-1 vs. ranked opponents) with an 8.14 GAA, .535 save percentage and 178 saves.

Another Defensive Honor for Detwiler

  • Katie Detwiler was named Patriot League Defender of the Week for a second-consecutive week on Monday. The PL Preseason Defensive Player of the Year has now received six weekly awards during her Loyola career.
  • Detwiler's primary matchup vs. Georgetown was Michaela Bruno, whom she held without a point in Loyola's 9-6 win. That snapped a 23-game point scoring streak for the two-time All-Big East performer.
  • Detwiler then matched up against Drexel's Karson Harris, a 2021 Tewaaraton Award watch list candidate who entered the weekend ranked second nationally in goals scored (24). Harris was limited to one goal on just three shots.

Kluegel Approaching Century Mark

  • With her four goals on Sunday, Elli Kluegel is now up to 90 for her collegiate career, leaving her 10 away from becoming the 32nd Greyhound to reach 100.
  • Kluegel has totaled 10 goals during Loyola's current four-game win streak, and she continues to lead the Greyhounds with 13 ground balls on the year.
  • Kluegel recorded her second career five-point game on Sunday, matching a five-goal performance during the 2019 NCAA tournament vs. Richmond.

Fiedler, Rosenzweig Named to Tewaaraton Award Watch List

  • Seniors Sam Fiedler and Livy Rosenzweig were each included in the group of 57 initial watch list candidates announced on Thursday for the 2021 Tewaaraton Award. Both were on the 2020 watch list as well, and Rosenzweig was also a Top-25 semifinalist for the award as a sophomore in 2019.
  • Fielder leads the Greyhounds with 23 points (16 G, 7 A) and seven caused turnovers. Rosenzweig is just behind with 22 points (11 G, 11 A), and she has also won a team-high 22 draw controls.
  • The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the USA. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.

Condensed Schedule Includes Seven Games at Ridley

  • In response to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, Loyola and the Patriot League have instituted several changes to the 2021 lacrosse schedule.
  • Consistent with the prioritization of health and safety, the 13-game schedule features reductions in travel and overnight stays. Loyola has six non-conference opponents currently on the schedule, with four taking place at Ridley Athletic Complex and the other two short trips to Towson and Villanova.
  • The Patriot League is split into two five-team divisions, with Loyola grouped in the South with American, Bucknell, Lehigh and Navy.
  • The top two teams in each division advance to the PL tournament, with semifinal games set for May 6 and the championship scheduled for May 8.

  • Rosenzweig has totaled 5+ points in 33 of 53 collegiate games, including 4 of 5 contests in 2020. She has recorded multiple points in 52 of 53 appearances.

Kluegel Excels On, Off Field

  • Senior Elli Kluegel was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team for a second-consecutive season on Feb. 4. Her 15 goals ranked third on the team in 2020, and she currently has 90 goals in 53 career appearances.
