BALTIMORE – Loyola Univeristy Maryland volleyball rallied to win the third and fourth sets after dropping the first two Saturday evening to the U.S. Naval Academy, but the Greyhounds could not withstand an early run in the final frame by the Midshipmen, falling 25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 23-25, 15-6.
Navy hit .692 with nine kills on 13 swings without an error in the fifth set, taking a commanding 6-0 lead early.
Loyola scored four times on Midshipmen service errors to get to 9-4, but Avery Stowell and Maddi Sgattoni had kills to push the Navy lead to 11-4.
Abby Hamilton and
Lauren Link combined for 29 kills with 15 and 14, respectively, for the Greyhounds, while
Adara Kellogg and
Mackenzie Fedota each had six. Kellogg had seven total blocks, and Link was in on six.
Katie Forsythe posted a match-best 36 digs, and Hamilton pulled up 12 for the Greyhounds.
