First-Half Outburst Leads No. 14 Women’s Lacrosse to 21-4 Win Over American

BALTIMORE – Livy Rosenzweig recorded six of her game-high seven points in the first half, as Loyola University Maryland raced out to a 15-3 advantage at the intermission before ultimately securing a 21-4 home victory over American in the Patriot League opener for both sides.

Eleven different players scored for the Greyhounds (2-2, 1-0 PL), whose 15 goals were the program's most in a half since they also had 15 in a 20-8 victory over Lafayette back on April 22, 2017.

Rosenzweig, who matched a career-high with nine points in Wednesday's 18-6 win at Villanova, finished with four goals, three assists and five draw controls in today's victory. Sam Fiedler (3 G, 1 A) added four points, registering her seventh-straight game with 3+ goals dating back to last season, while Emily Wills supplied three goals and Katie Detwiler won a career-best seven draws.

After the teams traded goals in the opening three minutes, Liz Scott set up Jillian Wilson to put Loyola in front with 26:28 on the clock. That started a 6-0 stretch for the home side, and the goals kept coming from there. Meg Hillman's first collegiate goal increased the lead to 14-3 with 7:33 left in the first half, and Anna Ruby's second of the year got Loyola to 15 with 2:59 remaining.

Alanna Wray scored her first two goals as a Greyhound in the second half, while Sydni Black also chipped in her first collegiate strike with 25:27 left in regulation.

Wray, Elli Kluegel and Wilson each finished with a pair of goals, and solo strikes from Emily Beier and Caitlyn Gunn rounded out the scoring. Holly Lloyd added three assists to match her career high for a second-straight game.

Fiedler led the Greyhounds in both caused turnovers (3) and ground balls (3). Loyola led 32-14 in shots, 19-8 in draws and 17-13 in ground balls.

Kaitlyn Larsson played all 60 minutes in goal, finishing with six saves to improve her lifetime record to 10-2. Casey Harkins scored three of the afternoon's four goals for the Eagles (0-2, 0-1 PL).

Loyola remains at Ridley Athletic Complex on Wednesday, hosting Georgetown in a non-conference matchup beginning at 7 p.m.
