The Matchup

  • Loyola women's lacrosse, which is ranked 13th in the IWLCA Coaches' poll and 12th in the ILWomen media poll, hosts Lehigh on Saturday in a matchup of two teams unbeaten in Patriot League play.
  • The Greyhounds would clinch both a Patriot League tournament spot and first place in the South division standings with a victory.

Last Time Out

  • Livy Rosenzweig totaled seven points (2 G, 5 A), Sam Fiedler and Emily Wills had hat tricks and Kaitlyn Larsson made nine saves in goal as Loyola topped previously-unbeaten Navy by a 14-6 final on Wednesday.
  • The Greyhounds used an extended 10-0 run which began at the 15:10 mark of the first half to break open what had been a 4-4 contest. The Mids (4-1, 1-1 PL) were held off the scoreboard for over 34 minutes of game action.
  • Jillian Wilson and Holly Lloyd each supplied two goals and an assist, with Wilson adding a team-high seven draw controls (all in the first half).
  • Katie Detwiler supplied three DC, one GB and one CT, and she limited Navy's leading scorer, Tewaaraton Award watch list candidate Nicole Victory, to zero goals, two assists and two shots overall.
  • Larsson and Meaghan Quinn picked up a team-high four ground balls, while Shay Clevenger's three caused turnovers were her most in a Loyola uniform.

Winning Streak up to Six

  • With Wednesday's convincing victory at Navy, the Greyhounds have now won their last six games by a combined margin of 100-37.
  • Livy Rosenzweig (19 G, 22 A) and Sam Fiedler (22 G, 13 A) have led the offense, while Jillian Wilson (33) and Rosenzweig (32) have combined to win 55 draws.
  • Kaitlyn Larsson has been dominant in goal during the run, posting a 6.25 GAA and a .584 save pct. while making 52 total saves. 
  • Loyola has held opponents to six goals or fewer in five of its six victories.

Series History

  • Loyola leads 13-4 in a series which dates back to 1982.
  • The Greyhounds have won the last 10 meetings, including all seven matchups since joining the Patriot League in 2014.
  • Lehigh has been a part of Loyola's two most-competitive regular season games in Patriot League play, with the Greyhounds earning back-to-back one-goal victories in the 2016 (14-13, OT) and 2017 (12-11) regular seasons.
  • Sam Fiedler (5 G) and Jillian Wilson (4 G) combined for nine goals in Loyola's 13-6 win at Ridley in the most-recent meeting on March 23, 2019.

Scouting Lehigh

  • The Mountain Hawks (4-2, 3-0 PL, 2-0 South) have won four games in a row since dropping their first two contests to Drexel (19-17) and St. Joseph's (15-8).
  • Lehigh's three Patriot League victories have come against American (12-10), Army (14-7) and Bucknell (20-7).
  • Gr. M Sondra Dickey, a Tewaaraton Award watch list candidate, received her 12th career Patriot League weekly award (and her first Defensive Player of the Week honor) on Monday. Active on both sides of the field, Dickey leads the team in goals (19), DC (25), GB (17) and CT (13).
  • Leading scorer Emma Eberhardt (11 G, 16 A) matched a career-high with nine points (6 G, 3 A) in last Saturday's win vs. Bucknell.

Patriot League Dominance

  • Loyola is 55-0 against Patriot League teams in regular season play since joining the conference, defeating American, Bucknell and Navy by a combined 56-13 in its first three league games this season. The run is the longest active win streak in Division I.
  • The NCAA record for consecutive conference wins is a 61-game streak by UMass in Atlantic 10 play which began in 2011 and ended on April 22, 2018.
  • The Greyhounds claimed Patriot League championships in each of their first three years in the conference (2014-16), and added a fourth postseason title in 2019 with a 21-9 win over Navy.

Quick Notes from Navy

  • Livy Rosenzweig's seven-point effort was her fifth in Loyola's last six games.
  • Sam Fiedler (3 G, 1 A) now has hat tricks in 7 of 8 games on the year
  • Riley Olmstead and Kaitlyn Larsson both set career-bests with two caused turnovers. Larsson's four ground balls also matched a career high.
  • Loyola's 10-0 scoring run was tied for its longest of the season, as the Greyhounds also scored 10 straight during their 21-3 win at Bucknell.
  • The Greyhounds improved to 10-3 lifetime against Navy, including a perfect 7-0 mark during regular season play.

Near the Top Nationally in Assists, Shot%

  • The Greyhounds' offensive outburst in recent weeks is evident in the national rankings, as Loyola is now second overall in Division I in shot percentage (.538) and fourth nationally in assists per game (9.50).
  • Loyola has registered double-digit assists in four of its six victories, and the Greyhounds have managed identical .636 shot percentages in their last two wins over Bucknell and Navy.
  • Sam Fiedler, the 2019 DI statistical champion in shot percentage, is currently seventh nationally while scoring on 66.7 percent of her shot attempts.

Rosenzweig, Fiedler Approaching New Milestones

  • Livy Rosenzweig is now tied for third in program history with 290 career points (130 G, 160 A). She is 21 points back of Grace Gavin '11 in second place and 27 away from tying Hannah Powers '19 for the team record.
  • Already the Loyola record holder in career assists, Rosenzweig is 18 away from surpassing Navy's Kelly Larkin for the all-time Patriot League record. She is currently second nationally in assists per game (3.25) this season.
  • Sam Fiedler (130 G, 53 A) is currently at 183 career points, leaving her 17 away from becoming the 12th Greyhound to reach 200 for her collegiate career.
  • Both Rosenzweig and Fiedler were included among the initial group of 57 watch list candidates for this year's Tewaaraton Award. Both were also considered in 2020, while Rosenzweig was a Top-25 semifinalist in 2019.

Detwiler Continues to Shutdown Opposition's Best 

  • Katie Detwiler, The 2021 Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and a 2020 Tewaaraton Award watch list honoree, is regularly matched up against the opposition's leading goal scorer:

Larsson Rising Up National Rankings

  • Kaitlyn Larsson now leads the Patriot League in both goals-against average (8.57) and save percentage (.508). At the national level, she is 10th in Division I in GAA and 13th overall in save percentage.
  • Larsson is 14-2 overall in her career (9-1 vs. ranked opponents) with an 7.79 GAA, .543 save percentage and 195 saves. She made a career-high 14 saves in Loyola's 9-6 win over Georgetown, and had a season-best .727 save percentage during the Greyhounds' victory at Bucknell on March 20.

Wilson Contributing Across the Field

  • Jillian Wilson has filled the stat sheet during Loyola's winning run, as she has 21 points (10 G, 11 A), 33 DC, 8 GB and 4 CT in the last six games.
  • WIlson won a season-high nine draw controls in Loyola's win over No. 24 Drexel, and she added seven more draws at Navy on Wednesday.
  • Offensively, the 2021 ILWomen Honorable Mention Preseason All-America selection had a career-high six points (3 G, 3 A) in Loyola's victory at Bucknell.

Preseason Accolades

  • Loyola topped the Patriot League preseason poll for an eighth-consecutive season, with the Greyhounds receiving 162 points and all 18 available first-place votes.
  • Livy Rosenzweig was named Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for a second time (previously in 2019), while Katie Detwiler earned Preseason Defensive Player of the Year accolades.
  • Rosenzweig, Detwiler, Sam Fiedler, Elli Kluegel and Jillian Wilson were all Preseason All-Patriot League selections.
  • Rosenzweig and Detwiler were two of US Lacrosse's 13 First Team Preseason All-Americans announced in December. 
  • Rosenzweig, Detwiler and Kaitlyn Larsson were all ILWomen Second Team Preseason All-Americans. Fiedler and Shay Clevenger landed on the third team, while Wilson received honorable mention recognition.

More Rosenzweig Notes

  • Livy Rosenzweig became the first Greyhound to earn IWLCA first team All-America accolades since 2012 following a 2019 season in which she broke program records in both points (116) and assists (70).
  • She ranked third in Division I in assists, and she was fourth nationally in points that season. She also helped Loyola lead DI as a team in both total assists (197) and assists per game (9.38).
  • Rosenzweig has totaled 5+ points in 35 of 55 collegiate games, and she has recorded multiple points in 54 of 55 appearances.

Kluegel Excels On, Off Field

  • Senior Elli Kluegel was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team for a second-consecutive season on Feb. 4. Her 15 goals ranked third on the team in 2020, and she currently has 92 goals in 55 career appearances.
  • Off the field, Kluegel continues to maintain a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in biology. A two-time COSIDA Academic All-District honoree, she was also an Academic All-Patriot League selection in 2019.
