BALTIMORE –
Matt Cardano won his ninth-straight singles match Monday, beating Villanova University's Ryan Nguyen, but the visiting Wildcats defeated the Loyola University Maryland men's tennis team, 6-1, at the McClure Tennis Center.
Cardano has won all nine of his matches since a season-opening loss on March 27 against the U.S. Naval Academy. Monday, he lost just one point in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Nguyen at No. 5 singles.
In the other singles matches, Villanova's Josh Robinson topped
Skyler Gates, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1, and Alex Kim was a winner by the same scores against
Benny Glezer at No. 2. Eitan Khromchenko got past
Edik Pribitkin in a super-tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-2, (10-8) at No. 3.
Daniel Cheng beat
Charlie Shanker, 6-4 (retired) at No. 4, and Anthony Prokurat knocked off
Oliver Davey, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6.
The Wildcats won the doubles point with three victories in the pairs. Robinson and Matthew Jones outscored Gates and Glezer, 6-2, at No. 1, and Prokurat and Justin Suarez were 6-4 winners against Pribitkin and Shanker at No. 2, and Khromchenko and Noah Winton defeated Cardano and Davey, 6-4 at No. 3.
Loyola's men and women wrap up their regular seasons on Tuesday, April 20, with a pair of non-conference matches against Georgetown University.
