BALTIMORE – Georgetown University came away with a pair of narrow wins on Tuesday afternoon, beating the Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams by matching 4-3 scores.
The Hoyas took both doubles points with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Avantika Willy and Morgan Coburn beat Loyola's
Kateri Martin and
Abigail Thornton, 6-2, and Chloe Bendetti and Carmen Aizpurua got by
Olivia Tracey and
Anna Rico, 6-3.
In the men's doubles, Mark Militzer and Kieran Foster topped
Skyler Gates and
Benny Glezer, 6-2, and Luke Ross and Harry Young paired for a 6-2 victory over
Edik Pribitkin and
Peter Kelley.
Anna Rico,
Abby Decker and
Sandra Aguirre won singles matches for the Loyola women at the fourth through sixth spots.
Rico was a 6-4, 7-5 winner at No. 4 against Aizpurua, and Decker won 6-1, 6-0 against Brooke Murphy at No. 5. Aguirre was a winner by default at No. 6.
Georgetown, however, got wins in the top three spots for the team victory. Willy edged Martin, 6-3, 7-6 (3), and Bendetti was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Thornton at No. 2. Coburn outlasted Tracey, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Pribitkin picked up a point for the Loyola men at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Andrew Rozanov, and
Oliver Davey earned one at No. 5 after Young retired due to injury;
Colin Corsini was a winner by default at No. 6.
Foster beat Gates, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1, and Militzer beat Glezer, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Ross secured the win with a 6-4, 6-4 over
Matt Cardano at No. 4.
