The Matchup
- Loyola women's lacrosse opens up NCAA tournament play with a first round matchup against Hofstra at Syracuse's Carrier Dome on Friday afternoon.
- The Greyhounds (11-2) enter on an 11-game winning streak, having clinched an automatic berth through an 11-6 victory over Lehigh in last Saturday's Patriot League Championship game.
- The Pride (6-6) received an at-large selection after falling 14-7 to James Madison in the CAA semifinals last week. Hofstra was ranked No. 25 in the most-recent IWLCA Coaches' poll, while Loyola maintained its No. 9 ranking.
- This will be the eighth meeting overall between the two sides, and the first since Feb. 26, 2007.
Last Time Out
- Livy Rosenzweig (4 G, 1 A) had a team-high five points while breaking the program's scoring record, Kaitlyn Larsson made 11 key stops in goal and Loyola earned its fifth Patriot League title in the last seven seasons with Saturday's victory over Lehigh.
- All five points for Rosenzweig came in the first half, as Loyola raced out to a 9-3 advantage at the intermission before closing out the win with a more deliberate pace over the final 30 minutes.
- With her fourth point of the afternoon, Rosenzweig passed former teammate Hannah Powers for the program's all-time points lead. Announced afterwards as Tournament MVP, she now has 319 points (143 G, 176 A) in 60 collegiate games.
- Larsson's 11 saves were her second-highest total this season, and they were backed by a strong .647 save percentage.
NCAA Tournament History
- The Greyhounds have won at least one NCAA tournament game in seven of its eight appearances under head coach Jen Adams, including runs to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2011, 2012 and 2015.
- Loyola has made 21 NCAA appearances overall in program history, making five Final Four appearances and one National Championship game back in 1997.
- The Greyhounds went 1-1 during their most-recent tournament run in 2019, topping Richmond 19-6 in the first round before dropping a 17-13 decision to No. 8 Princeton.
Series History
- Loyola leads 4-3 overall in a series which began with a 25-3 victory for the Greyhounds back in 1983.
- The teams met in six-consecutive seasons from 2002-07. Loyola took the first three contests in that stretch while Hofstra won the final three, including a 13-8 triumph in the most-recent meeting.
- This will be Loyola's third game in 2021 against a CAA opponent. The Greyhounds fell 13-7 at Towson on Feb. 24 and handed Drexel its lone regular season defeat with a 17-12 victory on March 14.
Scouting Hofstra
- The Pride have faced eight-consecutive nationally-ranked opponents entering Friday's NCAA tournament opener, with Hofstra going 3-5 against those ranked teams.
- Sr. A Alyssa Parrella, who leads the team with 58 points (42 G, 16 A) and ranks third nationally in shots per game (9.0), was honored as a first team All-CAA performer last week.
- Hofstra is making its third NCAA tournament appearance, having previously qualified in 2001 and 2007.
- The Pride lead the CAA and rank 11th nationally in fewest turnovers committed per game, averaging just 13.0 per contest.
Rosenzweig Named Tewaaraton Top-25 Semifinalist
- For the second time in her Loyola career, Livy Rosenzweig is a Top-25 semifinalist for the women's lacrosse Tewaaraton Award.
- Rosenzweig leads Loyola with 74 points (32 G, 42 A), and she has totaled 5+ points in every contest during Loyola's winning streak.
- Now at 176 career assists, she is two away from surpassing Navy's Kelly Larkin for the Patriot League's all-time record. Rosenzweig also ranks fourth all-time in the conference in points. She holds Loyola records in career points (319), career assists, single-season points (116) and assists (70) and single-game assists (8).
- In addition to her offensive prowess, Rosenzweig ranks third in team history with 274 career draw controls. She has won a team-high 73 draws this season (5.6/gm).
Quick Notes from Lehigh
- Emily Wills and Elli Kluegel each scored three goals apiece in the win. Wills has now scored 3+ goals in four of Loyola's last six contests, while Kluegel has an 11-game goal scoring streak.
- Katie Detwiler picked up a career-high six ground balls, the most for any Loyola player this season.
- Though she saw a seven-game point scoring streak come to an end, Jillian Wilson led the Greyhounds with six draw controls.
- Loyola finished the afternoon with a 13-6 overall edge in draws. The Greyhounds have out-drawn their opponents in 10 of 13 games this season, and they rank eighth nationally in draw control percentage (59.8%).
- Loyola has outscored opponents by a combined margin of 180-69 during its current 11-game winning streak.
Rosenzweig, Detwiler, Larsson Win Major PL Awards
- Loyola accounted for three of the six 2021 major award winners announced by the Patriot League last week, as Livy Rosenzweig was chosen as the Attacker of the Year, Katie Detwiler was named Defensive Player of the Year and Kaitlyn Larsson took home Goalkeeper of the Year accolades.
- Rosenzweig ranks second in Division I in assists per game (3.23) and she is also the Patriot League's overall leader with 74 points (32 G, 42 A). She was previously named Rookie of the Year back in 2018.
- Detwiler was included on the watch list for this year's Tewaaraton Award and has won three PL Defensive POW awards this season. She has been matched up against four fellow watch list candidates during Loyola's winning run, including shutdown performances against Drexel's Karson Harris (1 G, 1 A, 3 TO) and Navy's Nicole Victory (0 G, 2 A, 3 TO).
- An ILWomen Second Team Preseason All-American this spring, Larsson leads the conference and ranks fourth nationally in GAA (7.84), and she is ninth nationally in save percentage (.519).
Eight Greyhounds Named All-Patriot League
- Loyola's major award trio also earned First Team All-Patriot League honors, where they were joined by teammates Sam Fiedler, Jillian Wilson and Meaghan Quinn.
- Elli Kluegel and Emily Wills were honored as second team All-Patriot League performers. The Greyhounds' eight all-conference selections were the most in the Patriot League.
- A Tewaaraton Award watch list candidate, Fiedler scored multiple goals in all 10 appearances before suffering a season ending injury on April 16. She totaled 45 points (32 G, 13 A), 14 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers and a .667 shot percentage which is the third highest in Division I.
- Wilson has 3+ points in nine of her last 11 appearances, and she has won at least four draws in every game during Loyola's winning streak. She leads the team in caused turnovers (17), ranks second in draws (61) and ground balls (20) and is third in points (39, 23 G, 16 A).
- Quinn receives her first-career All-Patriot League recognition in her fifth year with the program. A two-time Defensive POW this spring, she is among the team leaders in ground balls per game (1.9, 19 total) and caused turnovers per game (1.1, 11 total) while aiding a backline which has surrendered single-digit goals in nine of the last 11 contests.

Kluegel Named Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year
- Senior Elli Kluegel became the fifth Greyhound in the last six years to be named the Patriot League's Women's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year last Wednesday. A biology major/innovation and entrepreneurship minor, she is the lone Loyola senior student-athlete to maintain a 4.0 GPA.
- Kluegel was previously named Second Team All-Patriot League on Monday. She is tied for fourth on the team with 32 points (26 G, 6 A), leads Loyola in ground balls (27) and ranks second in caused turnovers (14).
- Kluegel was joined on the Academic All-Patriot League Team by teammates Katie Detwiler (marketing major, 3.57 GPA), Sam Fiedler (finance major, 3.81 GPA) and Kaitlyn Larsson (finance major, 3.64 GPA.
- Loyola's four academic team selections led the Patriot League.
Wills Continues Offensive Surge
- Emily Wills, the lone Loyola sophomore to earn All-Patriot League accolades this season, has totaled 21 points (15 G, 6 A) in Loyola's last six games. She recorded back-to-back hat tricks in key division wins over Navy and Lehigh, and added a season-high six points (4 G, 2 A) vs. Bucknell on April 16.
- Wills has 32 points (21 G, 11 A) overall on the year, and she is among the team leaders with a .583 shot percentage. She has recorded multiple points in 10 of her last 11 appearances.
Preseason Accolades
- Loyola topped the Patriot League preseason poll for an eighth-consecutive season, with the Greyhounds receiving 162 points and all 18 available first-place votes.
- Livy Rosenzweig was named Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for a second time (previously in 2019), while Katie Detwiler earned Preseason Defensive Player of the Year accolades.
- Rosenzweig, Detwiler, Sam Fiedler, Elli Kluegel and Jillian Wilson were all Preseason All-Patriot League selections.
