The Matchup
- Loyola women's lacrosse continues NCAA tournament play with a second round matchup at No. 3 overall seed Syracuse on Sunday afternoon.
- The Greyhounds (12-2) are looking to clinch their first quarterfinal appearance since 2015. Their 12-game winning streak is the program's longest since a 16-game run during that 2015 season.
- This will be the second meeting between the two sides this spring, with Syracuse prevailing by an 18-6 final in Baltimore in the season opener for both teams on Feb. 20.
- This is also the second NCAA tournament meeting between Loyola and Syracuse, with the Orange earning a 10-7 victory in the 2015 quarterfinals.
Last Time Out
- Elli Kluegel scored a game-high four goals, including the game-winner with 1:40 left in regulation, Livy Rosenzweig became the Patriot League's all-time assist leader and Loyola extended its season with an 11-9 victory over Hofstra in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on Friday.
- Kaitlyn Larsson added 12 saves with a .571 save percentage in goal for Loyola, while Sydni Black recorded her first collegiate hat trick off the bench.
- Kluegel's game-winner halted a 4-0 run for the Pride (6-7), which had leveled the score after the Greyhounds held their third four-goal advantage of the contest at 9-5.
- Shay Clevenger matched a career-high with three caused turnovers on the backline, including a stick check with 30 seconds remaining to finish off the victory.
NCAA Tournament History
- The Greyhounds have now won at least one NCAA tournament game in eight of its nine appearances under head coach Jen Adams, including runs to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2011, 2012 and 2015.
- Loyola has made 21 NCAA appearances overall in program history, making five Final Four appearances and one National Championship game back in 1997.
- The Greyhounds went 1-1 during their most-recent tournament run in 2019, topping Richmond 19-6 in the first round before dropping a 17-13 decision to No. 8 Princeton.
Series History
- Syracuse leads 15-6 in a series which dates back to 2003.
- The two teams have faced off in every completed season since that 2003 matchup, including an eight-year stretch as conference rivals when Loyola competed in the Big East from 2006-13.
- The Orange have won six-straight meetings, including this season's 18-6 triumph at Ridley Athletic Complex. Loyola trailed 3-2 midway through the first half in that contest, but Syracuse used an extended 10-1 run to take control.
- Loyola's last win was a 9-8 victory at then-No. 3 Syracuse in the 2015 regular season finale. The Greyhounds are 3-8 overall in road games at Syracuse.
Scouting Syracuse
- The Orange (14-3) are coming off a 9-4 defeat to No. 1 North Carolina in the ACC Championship game. All three defeats this season have come against top-five opponents.
- Syracuse has advanced to nine-straight NCAA tournaments, reaching the quarterfinals in 2019 and making it to the national championship game in both 2012 and 2014.
- Meaghan Tyrell (52 G, 34 A), Megan Carney (49 G, 20 A) and Sarah Cooper (42 GB, 30 CT) were all Top-25 Semifinalists for this year's Tewaaraton Award. Carney has since been lost for the season due to injury.
- Syracuse ranks fifth nationally in assists per game (8.5), while Gr. GK Asa Goldstock is 10th in goals-against average (9.31).
Kluegel Stepping Up
- Elli Kluegel has totaled 15 points (14 G, 1 A) in the last four games since Loyola lost Sam Fiedler to a season-ending injury.
- For the season, Kluegel ranks fourth on the team with 36 points (30 G, 6 A). She also leads Loyola in ground balls (29) and is tied for second in caused turnovers (14).
- Kluegel became the fifth Greyhound in the last six years to be named the Patriot League's Women's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year last week. A biology major/innovation and entrepreneurship minor, she is the lone Loyola senior student-athlete to maintain a 4.0 GPA.
Another Game, Another Major Record for Rosenzweig
- With the second of her four assists in Friday's win over Hofstra, Livy Rosenzweig became the Patriot League's all-time leader in that category. She has now recorded 180 assists in 61 collegiate games.
- Friday's multiple assist game was the 50th of her career, and she continues to rank second in Division I this season with 3.29 assists/gm (46 total).
- A Tewaaraton Award Top-25 Semifinalist, Rosenzweig leads Loyola with 79 points (33 G, 46 A), and she has totaled 5+ points in every contest during Loyola's 12-game winning streak.
- Rosenzweig became Loyola's all-time scoring leader during this year's Patriot League title game against Lehigh, and her 324 career points (144 G, 180 A) rank fourth overall in Patriot League history.
Quick Notes from Hofstra
- Kaitlyn Larsson has now made 23 saves in Loyola's last two wins (12 vs. Hofstra, 11 vs. Lehigh). Friday's effort was her eighth-career game with 10+ saves.
- Sydni Black and Elli Kluegel both scored twice during a 5-0 run which gave Loyola a 7-3 advantage at halftime. Black has five goals in her last three appearances and she leads all Loyola freshmen with eight goals this season..
- Catie Corolla (1 G, 1 A) recorded her third career multi-point game, while Caitlyn Gunn scored her first NCAA tournament goal with 12:37 remaining.
- The Greyhounds were out-drawn (14-8) for just a third time in 14 games on the year. Loyola still ranks 15th nationally in draw control percentage (58.3) this season.

Rosenzweig, Detwiler, Larsson Win Major Patriot League Awards
- Loyola accounted for three of the Patriot League's six major award winners this season, as Livy Rosenzweig was chosen as the Attacker of the Year, Katie Detwiler was named Defensive Player of the Year and Kaitlyn Larsson took home Goalkeeper of the Year accolades.
- Loyola's major award trio also earned First Team All-Patriot League honors, where they were joined by teammates Sam Fiedler, Jillian Wilson and Meaghan Quinn.
- Elli Kluegel and Emily Wills were honored as second team All-Patriot League performers. The Greyhounds' eight all-conference selections were the most in the Patriot League.
- Detwiler was included on the watch list for this year's Tewaaraton Award and has won seven PL Defensive POW awards in her career. She has been matched up against five fellow watch list candidates during Loyola's winning run, including shutdown performances against Drexel's Karson Harris (1 G, 1 A, 3 TO) and Navy's Nicole Victory (0 G, 2 A, 3 TO).
Steady Presence in Goal
- An ILWomen Second Team Preseason All-American this spring, Kaitlyn Larsson leads the Patriot League and ranks fourth nationally with a 7.94 goals-against average. She is seventh nationally in save percentage (.525).
- Larsson has managed a save percentage above 50 percent in 9 of 12 games during Loyola's win streak, including all three postseason contests.
- Larsson now holds a career record of 19-2 in goal (10-1 vs. ranked teams).

- Livy Rosenzweig was previously a Tewaaraton Award semifinalist in 2019, when she earned first team IWLCA All-America accolades after setting single-season program records in points (116) and assists (70).
- A US Lacrosse Preseason First Team All-American, Rosenzweig was the first Loyola player - male or female - to record 100 points in a season, doing so both as a freshman in 2018 (102 pts, 55 G, 47 A) and in 2019.
- She has recorded at least one point in 53-consecutive games, she has multiple assists in 50 of 61 career appearances and she has 11 career 8+ point games.

Wills Continues Offensive Surge
- Emily Wills, the lone Loyola sophomore to earn All-Patriot League accolades this season, has totaled 23 points (16 G, 7 A) in Loyola's last seven games. She recorded back-to-back hat tricks in key division wins over Navy and Lehigh, and added a season-high six points (4 G, 2 A) vs. Bucknell on April 16.
- Wills has 34 points (22 G, 12 A) overall on the year, and she is among the team leaders with a .564 shot percentage. She has recorded multiple points in 11 of her last 12 appearances.
First-Time Accolades for Quinn, Wilson
- Meaghan Quinn and Jillian Wilson each earned All-Patriot League recognition for the first time in their collegiate careers this season, with the duo accounting for two of Loyola's conference-high six first-team selections.
- Quinn was a two-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week who ranks third on the team in ground balls (19) and fifth in caused turnovers (12).
- Wilson has 3+ points in nine of her last 12 appearances, and she has won at least four draws in 11 of 12 games during Loyola's winning streak. She leads the team in caused turnovers (17), ranks second in draws (63) and ground balls (21) and is third in points (39, 23 G, 16 A).
Out But Not Forgotten
- A Tewaaraton Award watch list candidate, Sam Fiedler scored multiple goals in all 10 appearances before suffering a season ending injury on April 16. She totaled 45 points (32 G, 13 A), 14 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers and a .667 shot percentage which ranked third in Division I at the time of her injury.
- Fiedler will enter the 2022 season with 187 career points (134 G, 53 A) in 57 games played. She has managed at least one point in 50-straight appearances, and she has scored at least one goal in 48-consecutive games played.

Preseason Accolades
- Loyola topped the Patriot League preseason poll for an eighth-consecutive season, with the Greyhounds receiving 162 points and all 18 available first-place votes.
- Livy Rosenzweig was named Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for a second time (previously in 2019), while Katie Detwiler earned Preseason Defensive Player of the Year accolades.
- Rosenzweig, Detwiler, Sam Fiedler, Elli Kluegel and Jillian Wilson were all Preseason All-Patriot League selections.
- Rosenzweig and Detwiler were two of US Lacrosse's 13 First Team Preseason All-Americans announced in December.

- Loyola has a cumulative team GPA of 3.63, including an impressive 3.76 average during the 2020 fall semester. That semester total was the highest among Loyola's 10 women's programs.
- Senior Elli Kluegel and sophomore Catie Corolla both maintain cumulative 4.0 GPA's while majoring in biology.
- Loyola had a conference-high four selections to this year's Academic All-Patriot League, with Kluegel joined by teammates Katie Detwiler (marketing major, 3.57 GPA), Sam Fiedler (finance major, 3.81 GPA) and Kaitlyn Larsson (finance major, 3.64 GPA).

- Sunday's winner will face either Jacksonville or No. 6 Florida in the quarterfinals next weekend.
