BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League released its all-conference honorees and major award winners for women's lacrosse on Monday morning, with eight Loyola University Maryland standouts recognized following another undefeated regular season against conference opponents.
Livy Rosenzweig was chosen as the Patriot League Attacker of the Year,
Katie Detwiler was named Defensive Player of the Year and
Kaitlyn Larsson took home Goalkeeper of the Year accolades. That trio also earned first team All-Patriot League accolades, where they were joined by teammates
Sam Fiedler,
Jillian Wilson and
Meaghan Quinn.
Elli Kluegel and
Emily Wills were honored as second team All-Patriot League performers.
Loyola (9-2, 5-0 Patriot League) led the conference in both major award winners and All-Patriot League selections. Currently ranked No. 9 in the IWLCA Coaches' poll and No. 11 in the ILWomen media poll, the Greyhounds' five conference victories this spring improved their overall regular season record against Patriot League opposition to 57-0.
The lone Patriot League player chosen as a Top-25 Semifinalist for this year's Tewaaraton Award, Rosenzweig (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) receives her second career major award from the conference. She leads the Patriot League and ranks second nationally in assists per game (3.36) and is also the conference's overall leader with 61 points (24 G, 37 A).
Rosenzweig has totaled at least five points in 8 of 9 contests during Loyola's current nine-game winning streak, and she additionally leads the Greyhounds with 64 draw controls. Now up to 306 points (135 G, 171 A) and 265 draws in her first 58 collegiate games, she matched a career-high with nine points (6 G, 3 A) in a 17-12 win over now-No. 10 Drexel (12-1) back on March 14.
Detwiler (Devon, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) was included on the watch list for this year's Tewaaraton Award and has won three Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week awards this season. She has been matched up against three fellow watch list candidates during Loyola's winning run, shutting down Drexel's Karson Harris (1 G, 1 A, 3 TO), Navy's Nicole Victory (0 G, 2 A, 3 TO) and Lehigh's Sondra Dickey (3 G, 0 A). Detwiler also limited first team All-Patriot League performer Emma Vinall to a single assist in Loyola's 21-4 win on March 6. She ranks third on the team with 35 draws to go along with eight ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
Larsson (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) leads the conference in both goals-against average (8.11, 7th in Division I) and save percentage (.503, 12th in DI) while registering an 8-2 record in goal. She has managed a save percentage of .600 or higher in five of the last eight games, including a season-high .889 percentage vs. Bucknell on April 16. Larsson also came up big in Loyola's win over Georgetown on March 10, making a career-high 14 saves with a .700 save percentage to help the Greyhounds rally for a 9-6 victory. A two-time PL Goalkeeper of the Week this spring, has totaled 77 saves in her 11 appearances on the year.
Fiedler (Reisterstown, Md./Garrison Forest) continues to rank fourth in the conference in goals (32) despite suffering a season-ending injury against Bucknell on April 16. A Tewaaraton Award watch list candidate, she scored multiple goals in all 10 appearances while totaling 45 points, 14 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers and a .667 shot percentage which is the fourth highest in Division I. Now a two-time first team All-Patriot League honoree, Fiedler has 187 career points (134 G, 53 A) and has recorded at least one point in 50-straight appearances.
Wilson (Hampstead, Md./Gerstell Academy) has 3+ points in eight of her last nine appearances, and she has won at least four draws in every game during Loyola's winning streak. She is tied for the team lead in caused turnovers (12), ranks second in draws (48) and is third in both points (36, 20 G, 16 A) and ground balls (16). A first-time all-conference selection, Wilson is coming off a career-high five goal performance in Loyola's 17-6 win over Furman on April 25, and she won a season-best nine draws to help Loyola hand Drexel its lone defeat of the season in March.
Quinn (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) also receives her first-career All-Patriot League recognition in her fifth year with the program. A two-time Defensive Player of the Week this spring, she leads the Greyhounds in ground balls per game (2.1, 17 total) and caused turnovers per game (1.3, 10 total) while aiding a backline which has surrendered single-digit goals in seven of the last nine contests. Quinn has recorded multiple ground balls in 5 of 8 appearances, and she has caused multiple turnovers on three occasions.
A two-time Preseason All-Patriot League honoree, Kluegel (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) receives her first all-conference selection after leading Loyola in both ground balls (21) and caused turnovers (12) during the regular season. She is also fourth on the team with 27 points (21 G, 6 A) and enters the postseason on a nine-game goal scoring streak. Kluegel totaled a career-high six points last weekend against Furman, and she became the 32nd Greyhound to score 100 goals at Loyola with the last of her five goals in that contest.
Wills (Ambler, Pa./The Agnes Irwin School) has matched Kluegel's points total with 17 goals and 10 assists in her sophomore season, and she is second on the team with a .607 shot percentage. She has recorded multiple points in eight of her last nine appearances, posting hat tricks in back-to-back victories over South division rivals Navy and Lehigh and adding a season-best six points (4 G, 2 A) in Loyola's Patriot League regular season finale against Bucknell.
Lehigh took home two of the remaining major awards, with Sondra Dickey (Midfielder of the Year) and Jill Redfern (Coach of the Year) both recognized. Colgate's Amelia Cunningham was selected as the conference's Rookie of the Year.
The Greyhounds will host the Patriot League Final Four at Ridley Athletic Complex for a seventh time in as many seasons this week. They will face Colgate in a semifinal at 3 p.m. on Thursday, while Army takes on Lehigh in the other semifinal at 7 p.m. that evening. Winners advance to the 2021 Patriot League Championship game, which will air on CBS Sports Network at 12:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
