NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The IWLCA released its All-American selections for the 2021 women's lacrosse season on Tuesday, with Loyola University Maryland's
Katie Detwiler and
Livy Rosenzweig each landing on the second team.
Rosenzweig is recognized for a third time in her collegiate career, while Detwiler earns All-America status from the national coaches' organization for a first time. These are the first IWLCA All-America honors since 2019, as awards were not announced following the shortened 2020 campaign.
Both Rosenzweig and Detwiler were major contributors to a 12-3 season for the Greyhounds which included a fifth Patriot League Championship in seven years and a return trip to the second round of the NCAA tournament. Rosenzweig was honored as the Patriot League's Attacker of the Year while Detwiler earned Defensive Player of the Year recognition for Loyola, which was ranked No. 9 in the final IWLCA national rankings.
Rosenzweig (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) was Loyola's offensive leader during a milestone-filled season. She paced the Greyhounds in points (83, 33 G, 50 A), goals, assists, and draw controls (84) while becoming Loyola's all-time leader in points (328) and the Patriot League's record holder in assists (184). Rosenzweig finished 2021 ranked second nationally with 3.33 assists per game, and her 5.60 draws per game were fifth overall in the Patriot League.
Rosenzweig will enter her fifth season with the program next spring ranked fourth all-time in the conference in points, 48 back of Navy's Kelly Larkin in first. Her 285 career draw controls are also the third-most in program history and rank fifth all-time in the Patriot League. Rosenzweig had at least five points in 11 of 12 contests during a 12-game winning streak for Loyola from March 3 through May 14 this season. The two-time Tewaaraton Award Top-25 Semifinalist was previously a first team IWLCA All-American in 2019, and she earned third team All-America accolades as a freshman in 2018.
Detwiler (Devon, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) was the top matchup defender for a Greyhounds squad which held opponents to single-digit scoring in 10 of 15 games on the year. Loyola allowed just 8.60 goals per game overall, a figure which led the Patriot League and ranked sixth nationally. Detwiler, who was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List for a second-straight season, shut down several Tewaaraton candidates during the Greyhounds' extended winning streak, and she took home three Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week awards in the regular season.
For the year, Detwiler finished with 20 ground balls, 12 caused turnovers and 41 draw controls. She managed six ground balls, four draws and two caused turnovers during the Patriot League Championship game, as the Greyhounds topped Lehigh by an 11-6 final. Those six ground balls were both a career-high and the most by a Loyola player this season.
Rosenzweig and Detwiler accounted for two of the Patriot League's three All-Americans for the 2021 season, with Lehigh's Sondra Dickey recognized on the third team. The Greyhounds have now had multiple All-America selections in nine of the last 10 completed seasons under head coach
Jen Adams.
