BALTIMORE – Four former Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse standouts continued their careers at the professional level over the weekend, as they began play in the inaugural season of Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse.
Katrina Geiger '18, Kady Glynn '19, Taryn VanThof '15 and Taylor VanThof '19 are included in an overall pool of 56 players who are competing to finish atop the individual leaderboard following a five-week season. Individual athletes earn points based on team wins and individual performance. Teams will change each week, with the top four athletes in the standings serving as captains and drafting their new squads for the following weekend.
Glynn and Taryn VanThof were each part of an undefeated Team Ohlmiller squad which went 3-0 during its three contests at Maureen Hendricks Field in Boyds, Maryland, while Geiger and Taylor VanThof were drafted to Team Benson for the first weekend. Glynn, the 2019 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year, is ranked fifth overall with 411 points after making 13 saves and surrendering just six goals in her three appearances.
Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse plays a short form, fast paced format consisting of eight-minute quarters, 9v9 gameplay and a 60-second shot clock all housed on an 80yd x 50yd playing field. The season runs from July 23 to August 22, with games broadcast on CBS Sports Network, Fox Sports, Facebook and YouTube. Twenty-two of the season's 30 games will air on either CBS Sports Network or Fox Sports.
Taryn VanThof, a three-time third team IWLCA All-American who graduated as Loyola's all-time leader in career (318) and single-season (122) draw controls, is ranked 15th on the leaderboard with 335 points. She recorded a pair of ground balls and one caused turnover for Team Ohlmiller.
Her younger sister Taylor, who broke the program marks in draw controls (392 career, 146 single-season) and was a two-time second team IWLCA All-American, finished with two goals scored and two ground balls for a total of 113 points. Geiger, a two-time All-Patriot League performer in the midfield, has 141 points after managing five ground balls and two caused turnovers over the weekend.
The draft for week two will take place at 7 p.m. on Monday night, with the next set of games beginning at 5 p.m. Friday.
