Forsythe Named Patriot League Player of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland libero Katie Forsythe was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Tuesday after helping the Greyhounds go 2-1 at the ODU Invitational to start the season.

The senior from Perry, Ohio, averaged 7.44 digs per set in the Greyhounds three matches, all three set affairs. She was named to the All-Tournament Team along with teammate Abby Hamilton after posting 67 digs in the three matches.

Forsythe, who now has four Patriot League Player of the Week Awards during her career, opened the season with 26 digs in just three sets against West Virginia before posting 19 that afternoon in a victory over Hampton.

She closed the weekend of action with 22 digs as the Greyhounds swept host Old Dominion on Saturday.

After one weekend of competition, Forsythe is second in NCAA Division I in digs per set; she has finished in the top-four nationally in that stat category each of the last three seasons.

She brought her career total to 1,686 and is 12 digs shy of moving into second-place all-time at Loyola in front of Nina Camaoni's 2007-10 total of 1,697. Camaioni's four-year teammate, Brittany Born, is the school record holder with 2,042. Forsythe is also eight digs away from moving into sixth all-time in the Patriot League in digs.

The Greyhounds will return to the court on Friday for the first two of four matches at the Towson Invitational. They will take on Princeton that afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
