The Matchup

  • Loyola women's soccer returns to Ridley Athletic Complex for its final non-conference game of the regular season on Sunday, as the Greyhounds take on Delaware for the first time since 2016.

Last Time Out

  • Ada Clare Tempert and Baylee DeSmit scored 2:32 apart from each other early in the first half, and Paige Sim made six saves in goal to lead Loyola to a 2-0 victory at Howard on Thursday.
  • The win was the 100th at Loyola for head coach Joe Mallia, as the program's all-time winningest coach also recorded his 150th career victory overall. Mallia, who first led the program from 1998-2004 before returning to Baltimore in 2019, is now 100-57-16 overall during his time with the Greyhounds.
  • MK Barnes and Sarah Bayer assisted on Tempert's opener 10:51 into the contest, while DeSmit's 14th minute goal was a penalty kick blast into the top left corner.
  • The assist for Barnes was her first collegiate point, and she added a defensive team save with 4:19 remaining.

Sim Continues to Lead the Way in Goal

  • Paige Sim has played 633 out of a possible 644 minutes in goal this season, and she continues to put up consistently strong numbers for the Greyhounds.
  • Sim ranks second in the Patriot League in both total saves (37) and save percentage (.804), and she has 6+ saves in 6 of 7 games on the year.
  • Outside of Loyola's two matchups against ACC leaders Clemson and Wake Forest, Sim is 3-1-1 this season with a 0.39 GAA and a .926 save percentage, surrendering just two goals in 458 minutes of game action.
  • A second team All-Patriot League selection as a freshman in 2019 and a third team honoree last spring, Sim is 12-7-7 in her career with a 0.71 GAA, a .844 save percentage and 11 shutouts in 25 collegiate starts.

Early Offensive Leaders

  • Baylee DeSmit and Ada Clare Tempert each recorded their second goals of the season Thursday night at Howard. Their four points apiece are tied with Sarah Mirr (1 G, 2 A) for the team lead through seven games.
  • Eleven different Greyhounds have at least one point on the year, while Loyola has had six different goal scorers.
  • DeSmit has 17 shots in her first seven collegiate games, 11 more than any other Greyhound.
  • Kelly Hutton scored the lone goal in Loyola's season-opening 1-0 win over Marist (8/19), and Olivia Quaranta's first collegiate strike was the game-winner in a 5-1 home victory over Iona (8/29).

Series History

  • Delaware leads 6-4-0 in a series which dates back to Loyola's first season as a varsity program in 1992.
  • All 10 previous meetings between the two sides have been decided by one goal, with three ending in overtime.
  • Delaware has won each of the last three matchups, including a 1-0 home win during the most-recent contest on Sept. 4, 2016.
  • The last Loyola victory came in 2012, when the Greyhounds earned a 1-0 win during a season in which the program went 12-6-4 and advanced to the NCAA tournament after winning its final MAAC Championship.

  • Delaware went 3-4-0 (1-3-0 CAA) in the abbreviated spring campaign and finished with an overall record of 12-7-0 (7-2-0) during the last full season in 2019.
