  • Matt McGonigle and Marcus Williams set up the game-winner for the Crusaders (5-2-2, 2-0-0 PL), who avenged an 8-1 defeat to the Greyhounds when the teams last met back in 2019.
  • Loyola had seven of the game's final nine shots, but was unable to get anything past Jimmy Joyce in goal.
  • The Crusaders snapped a four-game losing streak to Loyola and are 2-0 in conference play for the first time since 2008.
  • Shots were even at 11-11, while Holy Cross had an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.
Series History
  • William & Mary leads 17-8-6 in a series which dates back to 1978.
  • This will be the third meeting between the two sides since 2011. They played to a scoreless draw on Sept. 1, 2017, while the Tribe earned a 2-0 home win in the most-recent matchup on Sept. 24, 2019.
  • Loyola's last win in the series was a 1-0 road triumph on Oct. 7, 1998.
  • The last home victory for the Greyhounds was a 1-0 decision on Oct. 30, 1993. William & Mary is 3-0-1 in Baltimore since that date.

Scouting William & Mary
  • The Tribe (2-3-0) have dropped three-straight games to opponents with a combined win percentage of .820 (19-3-3), falling 4-1 at Hofstra, 3-2 to No. 12 Virginia Tech and 2-1 to Northeastern.
  • William & Mary began the year with shutout victories over St. Francis PA (3-0) and George Washington (1-0).
  • Jr. F Diba Nwegbo leads the offense with eight points (3 G, 2 A) while Jr. M/F Alexander Levengood (2 G, 1 A) and Jr. M/F Nathan Messer (2 G, 1 A) have five points apiece.
  • Levengood was the lone Tribe player selected to the Preseason All-CAA Team. William & Mary was ranked fifth out of nine schools in the conference's preseason poll.
  • The Tribe went 7-9-2 (4-3-1 CAA) during their last full season in 2019.

Quick Notes Entering the Weekend

  • Loyola's last victory against a CAA opponent was a 3-2 triumph over Drexel on Oct. 20, 2015.
  • Chase Vosvick has held opponents to one goal or fewer in 24 of his 27 collegiate starts at Ridley Athletic Complex. He is 2-2-1 on the year with a 0.58 goals-against average and .857 save percentage.
  • Vosvick ranks 12th in Division I in save percentage, and he is 21st nationally in GAA.
  • Justin Ingram leads the Greyhounds with six points (2 G, 2 A) in the season's first seven games. He has six career games with 3+ points at Loyola.
  • Kevin Medrano ranks tied for fourth in the Patriot League in both total assists (3) and assists per game (0.43).
  • Kelan Swales had the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute of Loyola's 2-1 victory at Lehigh on Sept. 18. Swales, who led the Patriot League and ranked seventh nationally in assists per game (0.67) last spring, now has seven points (1 G, 5 A) in his first 13 games at Loyola.
  • Nineteen different Loyola players, including seven of the program's 12 new additions to the roster for 2021, have started at least one game this season.
  • Seven different players have factored in Loyola's seven goals, with Ingram and Matthew Lala (2 G) leading the offense. Lala secured a 2-2 draw at Penn on Sept. 13 with a late equalizing goal in the 75th minute.
  • Sean Graham, Jordy Luchies and Daniel Tshiani are the only three Greyhounds to start each of the season's first seven games.

Weekly Award for Graham

  • Sean Graham's efforts on both sides of the field were recognized last Monday, as was selected as the Patriot League's Defensive Player of the Week.
  • Graham played the full 90 minutes on the backline of Loyola's 2-1 victory at Lehigh, contributing to a defensive effort which allowed only six of the Mountain Hawks' 22 shots to land on target. He drew a penalty which led to Justin Ingram's 17th minute equalizer, and added a pair of team saves in the last minute of the opening half.
  • A freshman defender with experience playing on Northern Ireland's U-21 national team, Graham ranks second on the team in minutes played (609) this season.
  • Graham becomes Loyola's fifth weekly award selection this fall, joining Chase Vosvick (2x Goalkeeper of the Week), Ingram (1x Midfielder of the Week) and Matthew Lala (1x Defensive Player of the Week).

Greyhounds Earn Draw at No. 5 West Virginia

  • Chase Vosvick matched a career-high with seven saves, including several highlight-reel efforts, and Loyola was even in shots with nationally-ranked West Virginia for the final 65 minutes of a 0-0 draw between the two sides on Sept. 6.
  • West Virginia was coming off back-to-back victories over No. 3 Pittsburgh (2-1) and No. 17 Penn State (3-1), but was held off the scoresheet for the first time this season.
  • Shots were even at 6-6 after halftime, including a 5-4 edge for Loyola in the second half. Alex Bobocea played the final 1:05 in goal after Vosvick left due to injury.
  • Loyola was playing its first ranked opponent since earning a 1-1 draw at then-No. 2 Wake Forest back on Oct. 22, 2019.

Loyola Tops Patriot League Preseason Poll

  • All three of Loyola's Spring 2021 major award winners were recognized on the Preseason All-PL Team, with Ingram joined by Sam Brown and Chase Vosvick..
