BALTIMORE –
Paige Sim and Fairleigh Dickinson goalkeeper Malene Nielsen combined for 11 saves, as Loyola University Maryland and the visiting Knights settled for a 0-0 tie at Ridley Athletic Complex on Sunday night.
The Greyhounds (3-2-1), playing before a boisterous crowd of over 1,000 supporters, remain unbeaten at home this season at 2-0-1. The Knights (2-2-2) picked up a draw despite trailing 14-11 in shots and 12-4 in corner kicks in the contest.
Baylee DeSmit had a team-high six shots for Loyola, three of which were directed on goal.
Grace DenBleyker also nearly put the home side in front in the 74th minute, but her apparent goal was called off due to an offside call. Sim finished with six saves for the Greyhounds.
Eight of Loyola's 12 corners came after the intermission, with the Greyhounds enjoying a majority of the possession in the second half and beyond. FDU's top chance to score was a long-distance effort from Leighann Kafel which rattled off the crossbar in the closing seconds of the first half.
Sim has now managed six or more saves in five of Loyola's six games on the year. The clean sheet was her second this season and her 10th in 24 collegiate starts.
Gillian Borton,
Julia Gray,
Chloe Kuminkoski and
Nicole Rivas all played the full 110 minutes while keeping FDU off the scoreboard throughout.
Loyola is down to its final week of non-conference play. The Greyhounds travel to Howard for a 7 p.m. matchup on Thursday before hosting Delaware at 2 p.m. next Sunday.
