BOSTON –
Taleah Dixon led all Loyola University Maryland players with 16 points, reaching double figures for a ninth time this season, but Boston University started and ended the game on extended scoring runs to secure a 65-47 victory over the Greyhounds on Wednesday.
Maggie Pina managed 17 points and five rebounds for the Terriers (10-7, 6-0 PL), who began the contest on a 17-2 run and scored 15 of the game's final 18 points after Loyola (3-13, 0-6 PL) had pulled within six midway through the fourth quarter.
Dixon hit 6 of 11 field goal attempts overall, including 4 of 6 shots from beyond the arc. Her four made 3-pointers were a new career high, while her 16 overall points were tied for second-highest output in a game this winter.
The Greyhounds reduced their deficit to 22-11 after the first, and they were within five points at 24-19 heading into the intermission after holding Boston U (0-15 FG) without a single made field goal in the second quarter.
The Terriers led by as many as 14 points in the third quarter, but an
Emily McAteer 3-pointer made it a 50-44 contest with 4:43 remaining in regulation. Boston U scored the next six points out of the ensuing media timeout to put the game out of reach for good.
Charia Roberts added seven points for the visitors, while
Bri Rozzi supplied six points, four assists and three steals. Foul trouble limited
Lex Therien to six points and three rebounds, as her streak of five-straight games with 10+ boards came to an end.
After missing the first 16 games of the season due to injury,
Emma Glezen played seven minutes in her 2021-22 debut off the bench. She grabbed one rebound and hit 1 of 2 free throw attempts.
The Greyhounds conclude a stretch of five games out of six away from Reitz Arena this Saturday, when they travel to American for a 2 p.m. Patriot League matchup.
