  • The Greyhounds' game against Bucknell University scheduled for Sunday, January 30, has been moved to Saturday, January 29, at 3 p.m. in Reitz Arena. The following contest, a Wednesday, February 2, game against the U.S. Military Academy, will be a 2 p.m. makeup of a game originally slated for December 30.

Last Time Out

  • Lex Therien registered her seventh double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds, leading Loyola University Maryland in a 53-49 setback at American on Saturday.
  • Jade Edwards hit a pair of free throws with 11 seconds remaining to seal the victory for the Eagles, who improved to 7-1 at home on the year. American took control with an 11-2 run to end the third quarter after trailing the Greyhounds by a 21-19 margin at the break.
  • Five of Therien's seven double-doubles have now come against Patriot League opposition. Her 18 points were her second-highest output this season, as she hit 7 of 13 field goal attempts and 4 of 5 free throws.
  • Bri Rozzi added 13 points for Loyola, reaching double figures for a seventh time this winter, while Caramina Tañedo grabbed a career-high nine rebounds and Emma Glezen dished out a career-best three assists.
  • Nine of Rozzi's points came in the second quarter, as the Greyhounds outscored American by a 15-10 margin to take a lead into the intermission. A Glezen jumper gave Loyola its final lead of 31-29 with 3:08 left in the third. Trailing 40-33 entering the final 10 minutes, the Greyhounds made it a one-possession game on five occasions during the fourth quarter. The last of those occurrences came on a 3-point play by Therien which made it 51-49 with 11 seconds remaining.
  • Edwards was quickly fouled on the other end. She had hit just one of her first five free throws on the afternoon, but sank both attempts in the closing seconds for the home side.  In addition to her nine boards, Tañedo also went 4 for 4 from the charity stripe and managed a career-high three steals. The Greyhounds shot 90.9 percent (10 for 11) from the free throw line overall.
First In Over A Decade
  • With her 10-point, 10-rebound game on January 15 against Lehigh, Lex Therien recorded her fourth-straight double-double. She is the first Loyola player to have four in a row in 11 years since Miriam McKenzie did it four games in a row from January 22-30, 2011.
Therien Among Tops In Nation In Rebounding
  • Lex Therien has made an immediate impact in her debut season, and with four-straight double-doubles, she now leads the Greyhounds in both points (11.5) and rebounds (10.2) per game.
  • Her 10.2 rebounds per game are third in the Patriot League and are No. 34 in NCAA Division I this season. She also ranks No. 2 amongst freshmen nationally in rebounds per game, trailing only DePaul's Aneesah Morrow (12.5).
  • Per HerHoopStats.com, Therien and Morrow are the only two freshmen in Division I averaging a double-double this season, and they are two of 35 players of all years to do so.
  • Therien is a three-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week, earning the award on Nov. 22, Dec. 6 and Jan. 10. She has scored in double figures in 9 of 12 games on the year, producing a season-high 23 points on January 8 at Bucknell.
  • Therien has grabbed 6+ rebounds in all but one contest this season, and she posted double-doubles against Fairleigh Dickinson (Nov. 14) and Hofstra (Nov. 20) in back-to-back games early in the year; she then had posted double-doubles in the Greyhounds' last three games. In the game versus Bucknell, she posted a then-career-high 14 rebounds only to extend that high to 15 the following game at Lafayette, a number she'd match January 17 at Holy Cross.
Rookie Honors
  • Lex Therien was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week on January 10 after averaging 18 points and 12.5 rebounds in games against Boston University and Bucknell. The award was her third of the season and fourth this year for Loyola (Laura Salmerón).
Dixon Second In Scoring Average
  • Taleah Dixon's 10.5 points per game are second on Loyola and rank 18th overall in the Patriot League. Dixon scored a season-high 23 points (8-16 FG, 3-7 3FG) in a Dec. 4 win over Mount St. Mary's.
  • Dixon also paces the Greyhounds in free throw percentage (86.3, 44-51). She is second among Patriot League shooters and 39th nationally in FT%.
  • Dixon is one of three team captains for Loyola this season, along with Laryn Edwards and Bri Rozzi.
'Ria Stepping Up
  • Sophomore Charia Roberts saw limited action as a freshman during the shortened 2020-2021 season, playing in 13 games and averaging 3.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in 12.8 minutes per game.
  • This season, however, Roberts has averaged 27.8 minutes per game while starting all 17 contests, and she has responded with 8.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest.
  • The Baltimore County native has scored eight or more points in nine games, and she has grabbed five or more rebounds nine times.
Using the Opportunity
  • Caramina Tañedo had played just 22 minutes over her previous seven appearances, but the sophomore made the most of extended playing time of the year to-date in the Greyhounds' Patriot League opener against Boston University.
  • She equaled those 22 minutes and scored a career-high 12 points, making four of the six 3-pointers she attempted. Her 12 points eclipsed her previous high of eight from the Greyhounds' season-opener at Niagara where she scored eight.
  • Tañedo has continued to earn more playing time for the Greyhounds and drew a season-high 36 minutes on January 22 against American. In that game, she grabbed a career-best nine rebounds.
Using The Opportunity, Part Two
  • Keegan Douglas has also seen her playing time increase over the past several games, averaging 18.2 over the last six. She saw 16 minutes of action against Lehigh, and she tied her to-date career-high with nine points. Douglas followed that with eight points versus Holy Cross.
Worth Noting
  • The Greyhounds have been tied or led in the fourth quarter in nine of 14 games this season under first year head coach Danielle O'Banion.
  • With her 23 points on Dec. 4 against the Mount, Taleah Dixon totaled 20+ points for the fourth time in her collegiate career, and the first time since she had a career-best 26 during the 2019 Patriot League quarterfinals at Bucknell.
  • Loyola's 63-57 win over UMBC on Nov. 17 was the program's first victory after trailing by 14+ points in the second half since Feb. 10, 2012 vs. Iona (66-60).
  • Loyola's overtime victory over FDU on Nov. 14 was the program's first in extra time since Jan. 2, 2017 at Lafayette. The Greyhounds are now 3-9 in OT dating back to March 4, 2011.
