BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland freshman Lex Therien averaged a double-double again last week in a pair of Greyhounds women's basketball games, and she was rewarded with her fourth Patriot League Rookie of the Week award this season.
 
She finished two games averaging 17.0 points and 13.5 rebounds to raise her season totals to 12.1 points and 10.5 rebounds through 19 outings.
 
Therien opened the week by playing a critical role in the Greyhounds' first Patriot League win of the season as she matched her season-high with 23 points and also had 14 rebounds Wednesday night against Colgate.
 
Her biggest points came in the final seconds as she caught a Bri Rozzi inbounds pass, turned and scored off the glass with 3.2 seconds left to give Loyola a 62-61 lead against the Raiders. Therien then came from the help-side to block a Colgate shot at the buzzer that could have pushed the Raiders to the win.
 
She came back from that performance with an 11-point, 13-rebound outing on Saturday against Bucknell for her ninth double-double of the season. She now has three double-doubles in a row for the second time this year, and the game against the Bison marked her seventh in nine Patriot League games.
 
Following the Bucknell game, she moved up to second in the conference in rebounds per game and ninth in scoring. She leads Patriot League freshmen in both categories.
 
On the national scale, she is second amongst all first-year players in rebounds per game, trailing only the national leader in the category, DePaul's Anessah Morrow (13.4). Therien and Morrow are two of 36 NCAA Division I players to average a double-double this year, per HerHoopStats.com, and they are the only freshmen to do so.
 
Loyola will return to action in Reitz Arena on Wednesday, February 2, when it hosts the U.S. Military Academy at 2 p.m.
