BALTIMORE –
Jessica Bodewes and Evi Shivkumar took second out of 16 teams at the 2022 Greyhounds Classic as the Loyola University Maryland women's tennis team closed out its fall schedule on Sunday.
Olivia Tracey and
Christine Richiez finished fourth, while the team of
Lauren Manwiller and
Jocelyn Assael was fifth at the three-day tournament at the McClure Tennis Center.
Bodewes and Shivkumar won three matches on the first two days and then beat a doubles team from Howard, 6-2, on Sunday to start the championship round, but the Bison players came back to win straight-set singles matches.
Tracey and Richiez were victorious in the first round and the quarterfinals before Howard took the opening doubles point in the semifinals match. Tracey rallied for a three-set win in singles, but Richiez was edged in her singles contest. A team from George Mason then defeated the Greyhounds pair in the third-place match.
Manwiller and Assael won their opening match on Friday before falling in the quarterfinal round to a George Mason team. They then came back to win their last two, defeating a pair from Rider in the fifth-place match behind a doubles win and Manwiller's singles victory.
Madison Metzdorf and
Addison Kemerer won their 11
th-place match on Sunday after the two teamed with
Anna Rico throughout the weekend.
Taylor Kuncl and
Katie Moorhead used a 6-1 win over a Rider doubles team to propel themselves to a win in the 15
th-place match after pairing with
Lauren Williamson throughout the weekend.
