FAIRFAX STATION, Va. – The Loyola University Maryland men's varsity four of Joseph Arvelo, Eoin McDonough, Max Greer, Frederich Lightner and coxswain Kat An won its race on Saturday, leading a strong Greyhounds contingent at the Head of the Occoquan in Northern Virginia.
The team raced to a time of 19:19.63 to take first out of 11 teams and win by more than 53 seconds of the second-place boat from the University of Pittsburgh.
"The team performed really well today," said Head Coach Megan Patrick. "It confirms the speed we've seen the last two weekends and gives us confidence that committing to the training creates results."
The men's varsity four was one of six Loyola entries that had top-three finishes on Saturday at the Occoquan Reservoir.
The men's varsity eight took second out of 10 entries with a time of 17:41.96, just under two seconds back of the winning crew from the Univesrity of Delaware. The men's junior varsity eight was second out of four in 18:56.85. Loyola's men's novice/freshman eight took second out of eight in 19:18.39.
Loyola's women's varsity eight was third out of 11 boats in the race, stroking to a time of 19:59.18; the junior varsity eight was second out of five in 21:06.33.
The men's freshman/novice four was ninth out of 12 in 24:30.06, while the women's freshman/novice four finished 11th out of 17 in 28:10.41.
The Greyhounds women's novice eight took eighth out of nine entries with a time of 27:04.83, and the men's junior varsity four finished sixth in 23:51.63.
Loyola had two entries in the women's junior varsity four with one boat taking fifth in 23:34.62, and the second coming in seventh in 24:33.86.
The Greyhounds wrap-up their fall schedule next weekend with the Frostbite Regatta in West Windsor, New Jersey, on Saturday, November 12.
