BALTIMORE – Colgate University used a 23-10 lead to turn a 7-4 deficit into a 37-17 lead less than 13 minutes into Friday's Patriot League opener, and the Raiders went on to a 101-67 victory over host Loyola University Maryland in Reitz Arena.
Golden Dike, who had 11 points for the Greyhounds, scored in the paint 1:40 into the contest, and Loyola led 7-4, but Colgate scored 20 of the next 22 points to go up 24-9 on an Oliver Lynch-Daniels transition layup at 13:42.
Loyola (5-9 overall, 0-1 Patriot League) would get back within 11 after a fast-break layup by
Deon Perry and a pull-up jumper from
Jaylin Andrews, but that was as close as Loyola would get the rest of the game.
Colgate (7-7, 1-0) made 13 of its first 16 shots and finished the game shooting 67.2 percent from the field, 60.9 percent from 3-point range.
In addition to Dike's 11 points, Andrews had 12, and
Kenneth Jones scored 11.
Alonso Faure added nine, while Perry had eight and
Tyson Commander scored seven.
Veljko Ilic returned from an injury that held him out of the year's first 13 games, and he scored five points and had five rebounds in 14 minutes.
Lynch-Daniels led Colgate with 24 points.
Loyola will be back in action on Monday, January 2, in Washington, D.C., when they play at American University in a 2 p.m. game.
