CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The No. 9 Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team had three Greyhounds named a Patriot League Player of the Week following a 14-5 season-opening win over No. 21 Johns Hopkins, as graduate student
Livy Rosenzweig was named the attacker of the week, senior
Jillian Wilson was honored as the midfielder of the week and senior
Katie Detwiler was tabbed the defender of the week.
Â
Rosenzweig fueled Loyola's offense with game-highs of four goals, two assists and six points in the win. She also helped the Greyhounds dominate on the draw, as Loyola won 14 of the 16 draw controls that she took throughout the contest. This marks the sixth offensive weekly award for Rosenzweig throughout her career, while the hat trick was her 28th.
Â
Wilson not only recorded her 100th career point with her first of back-to-back goals in a 52-second span to open the fourth quarter, but she led all players with a career-high 11 draw controls in the contest. With her 11 wins, the Greyhounds were able to secure 19 of the 21 draw controls taken in the game and turn a 5-4 halftime advantage into a nine-goal victory. For her play all over the field, Wilson collects her third midfielder of the week accolade from the Patriot League.
Â
Detwiler earns her eighth career weekly award after holding Shelby Harrison, a two-time All-Big Ten selection and regional All-American scoreless. She also finished with one caused turnover and one ground ball, while anchoring a defense that held the 21
st-ranked team in the country to just five goals and 16 shots for the game. Loyola's five goals allowed marks the least goals given up to a nationally ranked opponent since a 10-4 win over UMass in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
Â
Loyola will return to action Wednesday afternoon when it hosts Towson in a 3 p.m. contest at Ridley Athletic Complex.
