Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 9 Women's Lacrosse Remains Undefeated With 12-9 Win Over No. 12 Florida

BALTIMORE - No. 12 Florida erased two three-goal deficits, but the ninth-ranked Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team scored the final three goals of the game to remain undefeated on the season and escape the Gators with a 12-9 win at Ridley Athletic Complex Friday night.

Graduate students Sam Fiedler and Livy Rosenzweig led all players with five points each, as Fiedler scored a game-high five goals and Rosenzweig dished out a game-high three assists. Graduate student Elli Kluegel and senior Jillian Wilson also scored two goals for the Greyhounds (6-0 overall), while junior Catie Corolla and freshman Georgia Latch contributed one goal apiece.

With her first point of the game, Rosenzweig recorded her 350th career point. She already owns Loyola's all-time program record for career points, while her 354 points rank second in the Patriot League and 19th in all-time NCAA history.

In goal for Loyola, graduate student Kaitlin Larsson turned back eight shots.

For Florida (2-4), Emerson Cabrera scored three goals and Josie Hahn had two.

Loyola rattled off the game's first three goals, as Wilson sandwiched scores around one from Rosenzweig by the 7:59 mark. A pair of Gator goals pulled Florida within one, 3-2, but Kluegel's strike at the 2:51 mark regained a two-goal advantage for Loyola, 4-2.

Florida scored the next two goals, including the first of the second quarter, to even the score at 5-5 with 6:22 to play in the first half. The two teams would go silent after that though, as neither team was able to find the back of the net until Rosenzweig found Kluegel with 14 seconds to play before halftime. The goal sent the Greyhounds into the break with a 5-4 advantage.

The Gators opened the second-half scoring, before free position goals from Rosenzweig, Latch and Fiedler, respectively, pushed the Greyhounds ahead 8-5 at 8:03 of the third quarter. Rosenzweig then found Fiedler again following a Gator goal, keeping a three-goal margin for Loyola.

Florida would erase their deficit over the next seven minutes, scoring three-straight goals to tie the game for a third time, at 9-9, with 9:48 to play in the game. That's all Loyola would give up though, as Fiedler scored back-to-back goals followed by one from Corolla at the buzzer to account for the 12-9 victory.

For the game, the Greyhounds led the way in draw controls, 15-9, and caused turnovers, 7-6. Senior Katie Detwiler led all players with six draw controls, while Rosenzweig won five and Wilson finished with four. Senior Shay Clevenger caused three turnovers for Loyola and junior Riley Olmstead added two.

The Greyhounds will return to action next weekend as they travel to Lehigh to open Patriot League play on Saturday. Opening draw is slated for 1 p.m.
