No. 6 Loyola Picks Up 10th Win With 21-7 Victory At Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior Jillian Wilson won a career-high 14 draw controls, including a personal-best 12 in the first half, to help the sixth-ranked Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team to its 10th win of the season and a 21-7 victory over Holy Cross at Kuzniewski Field Saturday afternoon.

Graduate student Livy Rosenzweig led all players – and 11 Greyhounds in scoring – with four goals and six points to move her career total to 376 points, tying her with Kelly Larkin for the Patriot League's career points record. Larkin set the record at 376 by scoring 199 goals and assisting 177 others for Navy from 2017-2020.

Wilson and freshman Chase Boyle each scored three goals for Loyola (10-1 overall, 3-0 Patriot League), with that being Wilson's sixth hat trick of the season (18th of her career) and Boyle's first collegiate hat trick. Wilson's 14 draw controls also moved her career total to 193, which ranks fourth in Loyola's all-time program history.

Graduate student Sam Fiedler was second on the team with five points, scoring twice and assisting three times, as she and freshman Georgia Latch shared game-high honors of three assists. Latch also added one goal for four points.

Sophomores Sydni Black and Alanna Wray scored two goals apiece, while graduate student Elli Kluegel, junior Catie Corolla, junior Emily Wills (1g, 2a) and sophomore Sarah Engle all scored one time.

For Holy Cross (4-7, 1-3), Christine Fabrizi and Ella Kittredge had two goals each.

The Crusaders opened the scoring in the game almost five minutes into play, but it was the Greyhounds who would score the next four goals, as Rosenzweig had a quick answer for the Holy Cross' goal, scoring at 10:11. Boyle's free position goal gave Loyola its first lead and then goals from Rosenzweig and Fiedler capped off the four-goal run.

Following Holy Cross' strike at the 5:49 mark, Wilson, Fiedler, Black and Kluegel closed out the quarter with another four-goal Greyhound run.

Corolla and Engle opened the second quarter scoring, stretching the Greyhounds' run to six-straight goals and their lead to eight, at 10-2, with 11:15 to play in the first half. Holy Cross would go on to score three of the next four goals, and Loyola would answer by scoring three of the final four goals of the half, taking a 14-6 lead into the break.

It was all Loyola in the third quarter, with the defense posting its third shutout quarter of the season and the offense scoring all five goals. Rosenzweig assisted Latch to open the half, before sandwiching a pair of goals around one from Boyle. Wray then closed out the quarter with her first goal of the season, giving Loyola a 19-6 advantage.

Boyle converted her first collegiate hat trick to open the fourth quarter and Wray answered Holy Cross' lone second half goal with the final strike of the game, bringing the final score to 21-7.

For the game, Loyola held a 46-16 advantage in shots and 22-8 lead in draw controls. The Greyhounds also distributed 12 assists and broke eight of Holy Cross' 19 clear attempts.

Loyola will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Colgate at Ridley Athletic Complex. Opening draw is scheduled for noon.
