Golf Heading To PGA National For NCAA Regional

BALTIMORE – The Loyola University Maryland golf team will head to Boca Raton, Florida, and the PGA National Resort to play in the NCAA Regional later this month, the team learned as they gathered to watch the NCAA Selection Show broadcast on The Golf Channel.

Loyola won its second-straight Patriot League Championship on Sunday, pulling away for a 10-stroke victory at The Steel Club in Hellertown, Pennsylvania. The title was the Greyhounds' fifth as a member of the Patriot League – which the school joined in 2013-14 – and its 22nd overall conference crown since 1990.

The Greyhounds and 13 other teams will play the Champion Course at PGA National, a 7.045-yard track that is the home of the PGA Tour's Honda Classic.

Loyola will make its 11th appearance in the NCAA Regionals when it starts the three-day, 54-hole tournament on Monday, May 16.

Carlo Pizzano finished tied for first at the Patriot League Championships, shooting a three-round total of 4-under (72-68-72). Brandon Berry was third, two strokes back (72-71-72). The duo earned All-Patriot League First Team recognition, while Matt Malits was a second-team honoree after finishing tied for sixth at 5-over.

Berry leads the Greyhounds with a 71.30 scoring average this year, a total that is -0.15 to par. Pizzano is second on the team at 73.83 strokes, while Mike Crowley and Brett Inserra are right behind at 73.93.
