BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland men's basketball will open the 2022-2023 season on Monday, November 7, in the Windy City of Chicago, starting a slate of 13 non-conference games in preparation for the 18-game Patriot League schedule.
The Greyhounds will open the year with a road contest against DePaul on November 7, a tilt which will be the first-ever men's basketball meeting between the schools.
Loyola then heads to State College, Pennsylvania for a November 10 date with Penn State. That game will be the first between the Greyhounds and Nittany Lions since a November 2000 contest.
Brown will be the Greyhounds' opponent for their home opener as the Ivy League's Bears will visit Reitz Arena on Sunday, November 10, for the back-half of a Loyola doubleheader featuring the Greyhounds women taking on UMBC.
A game with former Mason-Dixon Conference foe Washington College will be next up in Reitz Arena on November 17, a tune-up before Loyola starts play in the Emerald Coast Classic.
The first game of the multi-team event will take Loyola to Clemson where it will face the Tigers for the first time on November 21. The Greyhounds then head to the Florida Panhandle where they will play in the Destin area in the two days following Thanksgiving. Loyola will first face Southern University on November 25, and it will play ether Omaha or Louisiana Monroe the next day to conclude the tournament.
Loyola continues the season's first month on November 30 with a game at Binghamton before the calendar flips to December. The Greyhounds are set to host Coppin State on December 3 before heading to the Tidewater region of Virginia for a game at Hampton on December 7.
Mount St. Mary's will host the 177
th meeting between the Greyhounds and Mountaineers on December 10 in Emmitsburg, Maryland, but Loyola will be back in Reitz Arena for its final two home games of the non-conference portion of the schedule.
The Greyhounds host UMBC on December 13 and then return after final exams for the non-conference finale on December 22 against Goucher.
Loyola will start its 18-game Patriot League schedule on Friday, December 30, with a home game against Colgate, and the Greyhounds will face the other nine schools in the conference in a double round-robin format which concludes February 25 with a home game against American.
The Patriot League Championships start on February 28 and run through March 8 with the championship game that will determine the conference's NCAA automatic bid.
