Box Score Houston, TX -- The Loyola Greyhounds women's soccer team traveled to face the Rice Owls on Thursday night, and after a
Baylee DeSmit free-kick goal,
Paige Sim anchored the Greyhounds a 1-0 win.
Sim set a career-high in the match with 9 saves.
DeSmit scored the lone goal for the Greyhounds off of a free-kick. From there, the Greyhounds used this momentum the rest of the half as
Kelly Hutton and
Elizabeth Gallagher both had shots on target before halftime. Sim recorded four saves in the first half.
In the second half, the Greyhounds were able to rely on their defense to maintain the lead as the Owls offense was pressing, tallying 12 shots in the half, with 5 on goal which were all saved by Sim. Despite the pressure from the Owls, the Greyhounds anchored down and were able to withstand the entire half as they held on to win 1-0.
DeSmit, Hutton, Gallagher,
Sarah Mirr, and
Jess Korman all tallied a shot on goal in the game.
Sarah Mirr, along with
Paige Sim were the lone players to play all 90 minutes during the game.
The Greyhounds will be back in action as they will host Youngstown State on Sunday afternoon in Ridley, as they begin a 5-game home stretch.
