Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Swales' Goal Gives Greyhounds a 1-0 Win in Home Opener

Baltimore, MD -- The Loyola Greyhounds men's soccer team hosted the Old Dominion Monarchs on Friday night. After what was a back and forth first half, the Greyhounds took a lead in the 61st minute to earn a 1-0 win.

In the first half, the Monarchs controlled the tempo for the beginning of the half, but could not convert it into any chances on goal. The Greyhounds managed to find their stride towards the end of the first half as they managed to get a couple shots off as the first half came to a close.

In the second half, the Greyhounds continued to push the tempo and were able to control much of the second half. In the 61st minute, Jordy Luchies connected with Kelan Swales from well beyond midfield, and Swales was able to get behind the defense and score for the Greyhounds, for his second of the season.

After the Swales goal, the Greyhounds managed to control the majority of the rest of the game, as Old Dominion had very few chances to equalize the game as they went on to win 1-0.

Jordy Luchies, Kyle Dengler, Thomas Gray and Matthew Lala all anchored the Greyhounds defense all game as all four played all 90 minutes. Marco Bla and Kelan Swales led the team with two shots on the night, while Thomas Gray, Kelan Swales and Daniel Tshiani registered shots on goal. Alex Boboccea registered another shutout for the Greyhounds and tallied one save on the night.

The Greyhounds will be back in action next Friday as they travel to face St. John's at 7:00 PM.
