Baltimore, MD -- The Loyola Greyhounds men's soccer team hosted the Lehigh Mountain Hawks on Saturday afternoon. A late goal from
Matthew Lala propelled the Greyhounds to a 1-0 win, for their first Patriot League win of the season.
The Greyhounds had plenty of chances in the first half, as they out-shot the Mountain Hawks 9-4 in the first half. Shots from
Jake Sweeney,
Sean McEvoy, and
Thomas Gray early in the first half nearly found the back of the net, but a pair of diving saves and a last second clear from a defender kept the game scoreless in the first half.
In the second half, the Greyhounds offense kept their foot on the pedal as they out-shot the Mountain Hawks 11-3 in the second half. Despite the high shot total, the Greyhounds found themselves scoreless. That was until a corner kick in the 79th minute found the head of
Matthew Lala who was able to put it passed the keeper to make it 1-0.
From there, the Greyhounds defense was able to hold off a late attack as they won 1-0. In total, the Greyhounds out-shot the Mountain Hawks 20-7 on the afternoon. Lala added his first goal on the season, while Swales added his team leading 2nd assist.
Alex Bobocea had 2 saves on the day, for his third shutout on the season.
The Greyhounds will be back in action as they travel to face American on Wednesday afternoon, for a Patriot League Championship game rematch.
