Baltimore -- Colgate University scored a goal in each half on Sunday evening to get past host Loyola University Maryland in the Patriot League Quarterfinals.
Both teams had good looks on goal in the first to start the game, as each team had a shot on goal in the ninth minute, as
Paige Sim saved the Raiders (5-12-2 overall, 3-5-1 Patriot League) first shot, and the Greyhounds' (11-6 overall, 6-3 Patriot League)
Baylee DeSmit had a good chance at goal, but was saved.
The Greyhounds had another pair of shots on goal, one from
Chloe Kuminkoski that was saved, and another from a
Alex Searing header on a corner kick, that was a goal-line save from the Raiders defense, as the score remained scoreless.
The Raiders got the scoring started, as they scored on a counter attack in the 38th minute to take the lead, as they held it going into halftime, leading 1-0.
Baylee DeSmit started the first half with a shot within the first minute, but went just high, as the Greyhounds continued to look for their first goal.
In the 53rd minute,
Alex Searing had another header off of a corner kick be saved on a goal-line save by the Raiders defense.
DeSmit had another good chance on goal in the 70th minute, but once again was saved by the Raiders' Alli Popham.
Late in the game as the Greyhounds continue to press looking for the equalizer, the Raiders forced a turnover in Loyola's defensive third, as Ari Bezanson scored the insurance goal, as the Raiders held on for the 2-0 win.
DeSmit had a game-high six shots, while
Paige Sim tallied a save. The Greyhounds out shot the Raiders 17-6 and led in corners 5-0.
The Greyhounds end the season with their most conference wins since joining the Patriot League, and the most wins in a season since the 2012 season.
